Dear all,
this is to announce the SISSA/IGAP algebraic geometry seminar,
centered on intersection theory.

The aim of these seminars is to study intersection theory following
the book of Fulton, Intersection Theory, and develop a working
knowledge.
A comprehensive list of all speakers and topics covered can be found
at the following webpage

SPEAKER: Vitantonio Peragine - SISSA

TITLE: Cones and Segre classes

WHEN: Thursday, March 11 at 4.30pm (Rome)

WHERE: Link Zoom:

ABSTRACT: In this talk we will try to summarize the contents of
Chapter 4 of the book. In particular, we will see how to generalize
the notion of Segre class of a vector bundle to the case of an
arbitrary cone (aka “singular vector bundle”). In the special case in
which the cone is the normal cone to a closed subscheme, we will
explain the behavior of the Segre class under the operations of
pull-back and push-forward, and in particular the so called
“birational invariance”. Segre classes will be used in one of
Fulton’s constructions of intersection products. Moreover, they appear
naturally in many areas of Algebraic Geometry, and we will try to
present some examples of these occurrences.

Best regards,
Andrea, Alessandro and Michele.
