EU research on Hybrid Optomechanical Technologies

Hybrid Optomechanical Technologies (HOT) refer to devices which exploit
nano- or micro-mechanical oscillators to couple and control the
electrical, optical and microwave domains. These technologies are on
high demand, as they are used in communication devices, medical imaging,
security (radar and THz imaging), timing and navigation, and future
quantum technology.

A spray to induce happiness and fight depression

The EU project POTION aims to find a new therapeutic treatment to fight
depression and other mental disorders, by focusing its research on
scents of two strong, yet opposing emotions – happiness and fear. The
objective is to detect the particular molecules and synthesize those to
create a spray that e.g. can induce happiness in people fighting with
depression.

Social-economic sciences and humanities hand in hand with future and
emerging technologies

The competition between so-called soft and hard sciences sometimes
changes into a cooperation, especially when these two branches get
inspiration from one another. A number of projects supported by the
Future and Emerging Technologies (FET) programme perfectly prove this
synergy.

Recommendations on priorities and R&D activities for the Quantum
Commmunication Infrastructure

The European Commission is launching a call for ideas to gather
recommendations and suggestions for priorities and research and
innovation (R&I) activities for the quantum communication infrastructure
(QCI) initiative. The objective of this call is to identify critical
areas for which an EU Investment is needed to allow the European Union
to ensure a robust, non-dependent and sustainable supply chain of
quantum communication technologies to build the EuroQCI.
