Berkeley Lab is Bringing Science Solutions to the World, and YOU can be a
part of it!

In the world of science, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley
Lab) is synonymous with "excellence." That's why we hire the best - whether
in research, finance or other operations. This is a great opportunity to
bring your top-notch skills to bear in support of world-class scientific
research that addresses national and global challenges!

Position Summary:
The Climate and Ecosystem Sciences Division (CESD) at Lawrence Berkeley
National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) invites applications for a Postdoctoral
Researcher to join a new project aimed at understanding the interaction of
large-scale climate change with urban-scale microclimates and the built
environment. Our research will support climate adaptation planning in
cities while advancing basic scientific understanding of the physical
processes that shape urban climates. The position calls for an individual
with experience in regional and/or large-eddy scale atmospheric modeling,
land-atmosphere interactions, and advanced spatial data analysis. Research
will be conducted in close coordination with regional stakeholders from the
San Francisco Bay Area and beyond, and so strong communication skills and
an eagerness to collaborate with diverse professional and intellectual
communities is required as well. This position provides an excellent
opportunity to work with a highly skilled interdisciplinary team in CESD.
Berkeley Lab is a renowned center of scientific expertise in many facets of
climate-related fundamental and applied science.

What You Will Do:

   - Conduct simulations of urban climate using a regional climate model
coupled to a an urban canopy model
   - Evaluate model performance using a variety of observations and
   analytical approaches
   - Produce data products in coordination with regional stakeholders
   - Author technical reports and peer-reviewed journal articles
   - Produce and deliver oral and written presentations of scientific
   results
   - Work collaboratively in a large multidisciplinary research team
   - Successfully contribute to an active intellectual environment

What Is Required:

   - Recent Ph.D. in atmospheric science, physics, applied mathematics,
environmental engineering science, or a closely related field
   - Demonstrated ability to perform comprehensive analyses making use of
different subsets of simulations, evaluation datasets, and advanced
   analysis techniques
   - Demonstrated proficiency with one or more programming languages
   (especially Python and/or Fortran)
   - Demonstrated excellent oral and written communications skills for
   presentation of research
   - Ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team
   - state-of-the-science regional climate models and or large-eddy
   simulators
   - Ability to work in an integrated team environment

Required skills and/or expertise in:

   - State-of-the-science regional climate models and or large-eddy
   simulators

   - The implications of land-atmosphere interactions for regional climate
   - Advanced model diagnostics and evaluation techniques
   - Spatial data analysis
   - Oral and written presentation of results

The posting shall remain open until the position is filled, however for
full consideration, please apply by October 27, 2015.

Notes: This is a 1-year term appointment with the possibility of renewal
for up to 5 years based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing
availability of funds, and ongoing operational needs. Salary for
postdoctoral positions depends on years of experience post-degree.
