Free-time activities
A R T  &  E X H I B I T I O N S
Art exhibition in the Sala comunale d'arte (municipal art gallery) in 
piazza Unita', 4 of works by Mario Bessarione entitled "Espressionismo 
riflessivo...nel controluce della conoscenza".  Open until 31 May 2006, 
every day from 10-13 and 17-20.
Charity art exhibition until 28 May in the Sala Giubileo (riva III 
novembre, 9 next to the Greek Orthodox church opposite the waterfront) 
entitled "Il magico mondo di Stepan Zavrel".  Open Mon-Thur from 
8:30-18:30, Fri-Sun 9:00-20:00.  Entrance is free, but all donations 
will be given to the A.B.C. Association (Associazione per i Bambini 
Chirurgici del Burlo onlus) which collects funds for children requiring 
operations at the local children's hospital.
"Trieste Umida" is the title of the exhibition in the Speleovivarium in 
via Guido Reni 2/C.  A chance to see amphibians like frogs and 
salamanders in a natural context, and examples of how delicate 
ecosystems rich in species of animals and vegetables have managed to 
develop unexpectedly in urban areas.  Open Tues and Thur from 18-19:30 
and Sunday from 10-12 until 18 June.
Photographic Exhibition in the Museo Sveviano (piazza Hortis 4) 
entitled "Se hai tempo fatti fotografare" (If you have time have your 
photo taken).  A photographic biography of Italo Svevo.  Open until 11 
September 2006 Mon-Sat 10-13 and Sunday 10-12.  Free entrance.
Exhibition in the ballroom of the Revoltella Museum (via Diaz, 27) 
entitled "Preview - Andy Warhol's Timeboxes".  Open until 18 July 2006 
as an introduction to the main exhibition which will open on 21 July in 
the renovated fish market (ex-pescheria) in Trieste.  E-mail

display here are part of the "Campbell's soup" group, dedicated to 
industry in Pittsburgh, Warhol's home town, which was a recurring 
source of inspiration in his work.

C H I L D R E N's  A C T I V I T I E S
L'Immaginario Scientifico
This science museum (located on the ground floor level of the Adriatico 
Hotel, entrance at the rear of the hotel, opposite the 36 bus stop) has 
exhibits which are particularly suitable for children.
A children's laboratory will be held on Sunday from 15.45-16.45 for 
those aged 4-7 and from 15:30-17:00 for 8-11 year olds.  You can book

current exhibition which will last until 18 June, entitled: Viaggiando 
Immaginando.

C I N E M A
If you want to see a film in English, the cinema Cinecity at the Torri 
d'Europa shopping centre (bus number 8 from the station) offers one or 
two films per week which you can hear in the original language by means 
of a pair of headphones provided by the cinema upon request.

F A I R S  &  M A R K E T S
Flea Market
On Sunday 21 May 2006, there will be the monthly flea market in Trieste 
town centre.  All sorts of antiques and bric a brac will be on sale all 
day in the roads of the old town behind Piazza della Borsa near the 
Roman Theatre (Teatro Romano).

Bonsai Fair
 From Friday 19-Sunday 21 May 2006 at the Centro Commericale Le Torri 
d'Europa (bus 8), there will be an exhibition of bonsai trees.

M U S I C
Choral concerts
On Saturday 20 May at 20:30 in the S. Maria Maggiore Church (at the top 
of the steps almost opposite the Questura police station in via del 
Teatro Romano), there will be a concert by the Choir of Citta' di 
Oderzo who will perform music by Albinoni, Schubert, Schumann, Verdi, 
Brahms and Poulenc accompanied by the organ.
On Sunday 21 May at 20:30 in the Church of San Francesco (near the 
Ponterosso Canal) there will be a concert by the Gruppo Incontro from 
Trieste of music by Purcell, Haydn, Mozart, Schubert, Mendelssohn, 
Britten, Leighton and Thompson.

Jazz concert
On Saturday 20 May at 21:00 in the Mago Merlino Bar (viale XX Settembre 
51/B) there will be a jazz concert by the Fabio Mini Trio.

Concerts in Muggia
On Friday 19 May at 21:00 in the sala congressi of Porto San Rocco in 
Muggia there will be a concert of music from operettas and musicals, 
entitled "From Vienna to Broadway", with pieces by Strauss, Lehar, 
Gershwin, Porter and Bernstein performed by the tenor Massimo Marsi and 
the soprano Loredana Pellizzari.  Free entrance.  To be sure of your 
place you can book by calling 040-273090.
Also today, Friday, in the Church of San Francesco in Muggia at 21:00, 
there will be a concert by the flute quartet "Nereide".

N A T U R E
Carsiana Botanical Garden
The Carsiana botanical garden, which offers visitors a beautiful 
selection of the typical local fauna, to be found among the vegetation 
in Carso (karst) is now open to the public for the summer season  This 
Sunday 21 May,  there will be a guided tour in Italian entitled "Piante 
in Pentola" (Plants in the Pan).  The tours will take place at 16:00 
and 17:00.  You can find all the information you need on their very 
helpful website (including the bus route to take you there, opening 
times etc.) which is also in English:

S C I E N C E
AREA Science Park Open Day
The Open Day at the AREA Science Park will be held on Saturday 27 May 
from 10-19, with lots of activities planned for visitors of all ages.

tour, it's best to book in advance, as places available on the day will

S P O R T
American Football
On Saturday 20 May, the local American football team, the Mustangs, 
will be playing a match at home at the Ferrini Stadium in Ponziana 
(piazzale dell'Autostrada, bus 8 or 29).  Kick off is at 21:00.  More

T O U R S
Trieste by Train
The"Rondo'" historical train which tours Trieste and the surrounding 
hills on the old railway lines started its summer season last weekend.  
Trains leave Campo Marzio station each Sunday at 9:45 and 15, and the 
main Railway station at 11:53 and 17:10.  The journey lasts about 1n 
hour and twenty minutes.  Tickets cost 8 Euro for a single, 12 Euro for 
a return.

Trieste by Bus
Every Saturday a bus leaves for a tour of Trieste from in front of the 
train station at 14.00.  It takes in all of the main sights to see 
downtown, and there is also a 30-minute stop at St. Giusto Castle, 
where you can walk along the Castle walls or visit the Cathedral or 
simply enjoy the spectacular views.  Tickets may be bought in the Sala 
Eurostar in the main railway station and cost 5.20 Euro, with children 
under 10 travelling free.
