Free-time activities
A R T & E X H I B I T I O N S
Art exhibition in the Sala comunale d'arte (municipal art gallery) in
piazza Unita', 4 of works by Mario Bessarione entitled "Espressionismo
riflessivo...nel controluce della conoscenza". Open until 31 May 2006,
every day from 10-13 and 17-20.
Charity art exhibition opening on 13 May in the Sala Giubileo (riva III
novembre, 9 next to the Greek Orthodox church opposite the waterfront)
entitled "Il magico mondo di Stepan Zavrel". Open Mon-Thur from
8:30-18:30, Fri-Sun 9:00-20:00. Entrance is free, but all donations
will be given to the A.B.C. Association (Associazione per i Bambini
Chirurgici del Burlo onlus) which collects funds for children requiring
operations at the local children's hospital.
"Trieste Umida" is the title of the exhibition opening Saturday 13 May
in the Speleovivarium in via Guido Reni 2/C. A chance to see
amphibians like frogs and salamanders in a natural context, and
examples of how delicate ecosystems rich in species of animals and
vegetables have managed to develop unexpectedly in urban areas. Open
Tues and Thur from 18-19:30 and Sunday from 10-12 until 18 June.
Photographic Exhibition in the Museo Sveviano (piazza Hortis 4)
entitled "Se hai tempo fatti fotografare" (If you have time have your
photo taken). A photographic biography of Italo Svevo. Open until 11
September 2006 Mon-Sat 10-13 and Sunday 10-12. Free entrance.
Exhibition in the ballroom of the Revoltella Museum (via Diaz, 27)
entitled "Preview - Andy Warhol's Timeboxes". Open until 18 July 2006
as an introduction to the main exhibition which will open on 21 July in
the renovated fish market (ex-pescheria) in Trieste. E-mail

display here are part of the "Campbell's soup" group, dedicated to
industry in Pittsburgh, Warhol's home town, which was a recurring
source of inspiration in his work.
Two important exhibitions at Villa Manin di Passariano. One "Infinite
Painting" is ongoing until 29 September from Tues-Sun 10-18, the other
"Sculture nel Parco" opens this Saturday 13 May. More information on

C H I L D R E N's A C T I V I T I E S
L'Immaginario Scientifico
This science museum (located on the ground floor level of the Adriatico
Hotel, entrance at the rear of the hotel, opposite the 36 bus stop) has
exhibits which are particularly suitable for children.
A children's laboratory will be held on Sunday from 15.45-16.45 for
those aged 4-7 and from 15:30-17:00 for 8-11 year olds. This week both
groups will be making fishing rods. You can book by e-mail at

exhibition which will last until 18 June, entitled: Viaggiando
Immaginando.
C I N E M A
If you want to see a film in English, the cinema Cinecity at the Torri
d'Europa shopping centre (bus number 8 from the station) offers one or
two films per week which you can hear in the original language by means
of a pair of headphones provided by the cinema upon request.
Trieste/Vienna
At the Miela theatre, as part of the Trieste/Vienna event, there will
be a showing in German with English subtitles of the film "Ein
flüchtiger Zug nach dem Orient" by Ruth Beckermann on Friday 12 May at
20:30. Entrance 3 Euro.
F A I R S & M A R K E T S
Antiques Fair
At the Fiera di Trieste (piazzale de Gasperi, bus 18) there will be an
antiques exhibition and fair until 14 May. Open weekdays from 16-21,
Sat and Sun 11-21.
Flea Market
There will be a flea market in piazza della Repubblica in Muggia on
Sunday 14 May. Muggia can be reached easily by bus 20 or by the boat
which leaves the molo Pescheria on Trieste's waterfront.
S P O R T
Cycling
Apart from the Bimbimbici event (details in today's link message), on
Sunday 14 May, there will be the annual Eurobike ride. The meeting
time is 9:00, with the start set for 10:00 in Padriciano, in the car
park in front of the Parco Globonjer (Monte Spacca'). There will be
two routes: the first easier one will be over 10 kilometres through the
woods near the Area di Ricerca, Banne and a new cycle track, the second
for more experienced cyclists will also cover 10 kms, but over much
rougher and steeper terrain. A helmet is compulsory and the use of
mountain bikes is strongly advised. Refreshments will be offered at
the end of the ride. On Saturday 13 May there will also be an evening
ride, starting at 21. More information and enrolments at the Casa del

Trieste by Train
This Sunday 14 May, the "Rondo'" train which tours Trieste and the
surrounding hills on the old railway lines will start its summer
season. Trains leave Campo Marzio station at 9:45 and 15, and the main
Railway station at 11:53 and 17:10. The journey lasts about 1 hour and
twenty minutes. Tickets cost 8 Euro for a single, 12 Euro for a
return.
Trieste by Bus
Every Saturday a bus leaves for a tour of Trieste from in front of the
train station at 14.00. It takes in all of the main sights to see
downtown, and there is also a 30-minute stop at St. Giusto Castle,
where you can walk along the Castle walls or visit the Cathedral or
simply enjoy the spectacular views. Tickets may be bought in the Sala
Eurostar in the main railway station and cost 5.20 Euro, with children
under 10 travelling free.
