Free-time activities
A R T  &  E X H I B I T I O N S
New Exhibition in Palazzo Gopcevic (via Rossini, 4, alongside the Canal 
di Ponterosso) entitled "Il Porto di Fiume" presents the history of the 
former Italian, now Croatian port of Fiume.  Open until 25 June 2006 
daily from 9-19.  Free entrance.
Art exhibition in the Sala comunale d'arte (municipal art gallery) in 
piazza Unita', 4 of works by Mario Bessarione entitled "Espressionismo 
riflessivo...nel controluce della conoscenza".  Open until 31 May 2006, 
every day from 10-13 and 17-20.
Charity art exhibition until 28 May in the Sala Giubileo (riva III 
novembre, 9 next to the Greek Orthodox church opposite the waterfront) 
entitled "Il magico mondo di Stepan Zavrel".  Open Mon-Thur from 
8:30-18:30, Fri-Sun 9:00-20:00.  Entrance is free, but all donations 
will be given to the A.B.C. Association (Associazione per i Bambini 
Chirurgici del Burlo onlus) which collects funds for children requiring 
operations at the local children's hospital.
"Trieste Umida" is the title of the exhibition in the Speleovivarium in 
via Guido Reni 2/C.  A chance to see amphibians like frogs and 
salamanders in a natural context, and examples of how delicate 
ecosystems rich in species of animals and vegetables have managed to 
develop unexpectedly in urban areas.  Open Tues and Thur from 18-19:30 
and Sunday from 10-12 until 18 June.
Exhibition in the ballroom of the Revoltella Museum (via Diaz, 27) 
entitled "Preview - Andy Warhol's Timeboxes".  Open until 18 July 2006 
as an introduction to the main exhibition which will open on 21 July in 
the renovated fish market (ex-pescheria) in Trieste.  E-mail

display here are part of the "Campbell's soup" group, dedicated to 
industry in Pittsburgh, Warhol's home town, which was a recurring 
source of inspiration in his work.

C H I L D R E N's  A C T I V I T I E S
L'Immaginario Scientifico
This science museum (located on the ground floor level of the Adriatico 
Hotel, entrance at the rear of the hotel, opposite the 36 bus stop) has 
exhibits which are particularly suitable for children.
A children's laboratory will be held on Sunday from 15.45-16.45 for 
those aged 4-7 and from 15:30-17:00 for 8-11 year olds.  You can book

current exhibition which will last until 18 June, entitled: Viaggiando 
Immaginando.

Bambini all'Universita'
On Saturday 27 May 2006 at 16, in the aula magna of the SISSA, the 
astrophysicist Margherita Hack will give a lesson in Italian aimed at 
children aged between 8 and 13 entitled "I marziani sono verdi?" and 
will answer questions on the stars, planets and the possibility of 
extra-terrestrial life.  The event is organized in conjunction with the 
children's magazine "Focus Junior".  Entrance is free.  It is possible 
to book in advance by calling 349-3050853.

Casa della Musica
At the Casa della Musica (via Capitelli 3) there will be free 
lessons/concerts with musical instruments aimed at children aged from 
6-10, accompanied by an adult on Saturday 27 May at 16:00.  Today, 
Friday 26 May, at 17:00 and 18:15, Mirtillo the gnome will be 
introducing 0-3 year olds to music.  Book on 040-307309 from 15:00 
today.

C I N E M A
If you want to see a film in English, the cinema Cinecity at the Torri 
d'Europa shopping centre (bus number 8 from the station) offers one or 
two films per week which you can hear in the original language by means 
of a pair of headphones provided by the cinema upon request.

F A I R S  &  M A R K E T S
Fiera Felina
On Saturday 27 May 2006, from 15:00-20:00, there will be an 
international cat fair and show at the Mercato Nuovo in via della 
Resistenza in the nearby town of Monfalcone (the 51 bus from Grignano 
will take you there).  Open also on Sunday 28 May from 10:00-18:00.

F O O D  &  D R I N K
Cantine Aperte/Open Cellars 2006
The wine producers of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia are holding their 
annual enotouristic celebration this weekend.  There will be guided 
cellar tours, vineyard tours and wine-tastings.  On Sunday 28 May, 
there will also be the popular enotourisic bike ride, taking cyclists 
through vineyard landscapes, stopping off for tastings en route.  Lots

M U S I C
Choral concerts
On Saturday 27 May at 20:30 in the S. Maria Maggiore Church (at the top 
of the steps almost opposite the Questura police station in via del 
Teatro Romano), there will be a concert by the Clara Schumann Choir.
On Sunday 28 May at 20:30 in the Church of San Francesco (near the 
Ponterosso Canal) there will be a concert by the Portelli Choir from 
Mariano del Friuli.

N A T U R E
Carsiana Botanical Garden
The Carsiana botanical garden, which offers visitors a beautiful 
selection of the typical local fauna, to be found among the vegetation 
in Carso (karst) is now open to the public for the summer season.  You 
can find all the information you need on their very helpful website 
(including the bus route to take you there, opening times etc.) which

S C I E N C E
AREA Science Park Open Day
The Open Day at the AREA Science Park will be held on Saturday 27 May 
from 10-19, with lots of activities planned for visitors of all ages.  
More information is available on their web site: 
www.area.trieste.it/openday.  If you wish to participate in a guided 
tour, it's best to book in advance, as places available on the day will

S P O R T
Bike Ride
On Sunday 28 May a bike ride will take place in honour of the famous 
Triestine cyclist, Giordano Cottur, who died this spring.  The route 
covers 25 km, from piazza Unita' to Miramare, and back through Trieste 
to the new Lloyd Adriatico buildings in Campo Marzio and is suitable 
for all age groups.  Meeting point in piazza Unita' from 8:30, with 
departure scheduled for 9:30, approximately.

T O U R S
Trieste by Train
The "Rondo'" historical train which tours Trieste and the surrounding 
hills on the old railway lines  has started its summer season.  Trains 
leave Campo Marzio station each Sunday at 9:45 and 15, and the main 
Railway station at 11:53 and 17:10.  The journey lasts about 1 hour and 
twenty minutes.  Tickets cost 8 Euro for a single, 12 Euro for a 
return.
Trieste by Bus
Every Saturday a bus leaves for a tour of Trieste from in front of the 
train station at 14.00.  It takes in all of the main sights to see 
downtown, and there is also a 30-minute stop at St. Giusto Castle, 
where you can walk along the Castle walls or visit the Cathedral or 
simply enjoy the spectacular views.  Tickets may be bought in the Sala 
Eurostar in the main railway station and cost 5.20 Euro, with children 
under 10 travelling free.
