Free-time activities

A R T  &  E X H I B I T I O N S
Exhibition of drawings by Leonor Fini, one of the greatest European 
surrealist artists.  The theme of the exhibition, entitled "...per i 
gatti, adorati gatti" is cats.  Open until 17/2/2006 from 10-13 and 
17-21 in the Sala ex-albo Pretorio (piazza Piccolo, 3).  All proceeds 
will be donated to Il Gattile cattery in Trieste.
Ongoing until 30 April in via Carducci 12 is the exhibition entitled 
"L'educazione spezzata" dedicated to the Jewish schools in Trieste and 
Fiume during the period prior to the outbreak of the II World War.  
Open Mon., Tue. and Thur. from 10.30-16.30, Wed. and Fri. from 
8.30-14.30 and Sun. from 11.30-17.30.  Guided tours of the exhibition 
can be booked on 040-633819.
The exhibition entitled "Il tempo della Scuola" documents the history 
of local nursery and primary schools in Trieste from 1841 onwards.  It 
can be visited in the Sala di Palazzo Costanzi in piazza Piccola, 2 
from Monday-Saturday from 10-13 and 16-20 and on Sunday from 10-20.
Inauguration of exhibition of paintings by Claudio Bonanni at 18 on 
Saturday 11 February at the Galleria Rettori Tribbio 2 in piazza 
Vecchia 6.  The paintings are joyous representations of Mediterranean 
life in a post-impressionist style.  Open until 24 February from 
10-12.30 and 17-19.30 weekdays and 11-12.30 on Sundays.  Closed on 
Monday.
An exhibition entitled "Una Citta' a bordo" traces Trieste's 
traditional link with cruise ships over the past 90 years.  Open every 
day from 10-19 in the Sala del Ridotto at the Teatro Verdi.

C H I L D R E N's  A C T I V I T I E S
L'Immaginario Scientifico
This science museum (located on the ground floor level of the Adriatico 
Hotel, entrance at the rear of the hotel, opposite the 36 bus stop) has 
exhibits which are particularly suitable for children.
A children's laboratory will be held on Sunday from 15.45-16.45 for 
those aged 4-7 and from 15:30-17:00 for 8-11 year olds.  This Sunday, 
both groups will be making balancing toys.  You can book by e-mail at

Children's Theatre
On Sunday 12 February at the Teatro Cristallo (via Ghirlandaio, 12, bus 
19 from the station) at 11:00, there will be a performances of the 
traditional English fairy tales "I tre porcellini - The three little 
pigs".  The show lasts an hour.  Entrance costs 5 euro.  More

Guided tour for children on Saturday 11 February 2006 at the Revoltella 
Museum, via Diaz 27.  Aimed at children aged 8-10 years, the visit, 
entitled "Su la maschera!", will include a tour of the paintings on 
display, on the lookout for carnival characters, clowns, monsters, 
princesses and suchlike.  The tour will be followed by a chance to make 
carnival masks.  Booking is essential (040-6754350) and costs 2 euro 
(adults 4 euro, which also gives access to the other exhibits).  More

C U L T U R E
Scottish Dancing
Next weekend, 18-19 February, there will be a Scottish dancing stage 
organized by the Robin Hood folk country club.  For more details call

info at robinhoodfcc.it.  Advance booking is essential.

Local food and wine-tasting
This weekend, at the Casa della Pietra in Aurisina (bus 44 from piazza 
Oberdan), there will be a chance to try local food and wine.  There 
will also be an exhibition by the local artist Luisa Comelli Lalovich.  
Open Saturday 11/2 from 15-21 and Sunday from 10-18.

M U S I C
Jazz Music Concert
On Saturday 11 February at 20:30 in the Auditorium of the Revoltella 
Museum (via Diaz 27), there will be a concert of jazz music by the 
Marco Tamburini Quintet.  The concert will follow the opening of the 
photographic exhibition "immagini Jazz" by Luca d'Agostino at 19:30 on 
the ground floor of the museum.

Charity Concert
On Saturday 11 February at 21 in the Palasport Chiarbola in Trieste 
there will be a concert by the U2 Tribute band - "Achtung Babies".  The 
proceeds from the sale of tickets (10 euro) will be donated entirely to 
the local children's hospital, Burlo Garofolo.

S P O R T
Ice-Skating
An ice-skating rink is open at the Fiera buildings until the end of 
March in piazzale de Gasperi (bus 18 from piazza della Borsa).  Opening 
hours will be Monday-Friday 14-22 and Saturday and Sunday 10-22.  The 
cost is 6 euro (including hire of skates) or 3 euro if you take your 
own skates.

Swimming
Trieste offers several possibilities for swimmers. More information, in 
English, on all the local swimming facilities (including the pools also 
in Altura, Monfalcone and nearby Slovenia) can be found on the

Remember to take a swimming cap with you, as it is obligatory in all 
structures!
The nearby seaside resort of Grado is nice to visit also in winter, 
with its historical centre, basilica and roman remains.  You can read 
about the town (in English) on the site:

pool (more information in Italian on the site: 
http://www.gradoit.it/home_turista.html).
If you don't have a car, the best way to get to Grado is by bus.  The 
APT number 21 bus goes direct to Grado leaving the bus station in 
Trieste at 7.55 on weekdays and Saturdays and 8.05 on Sundays (it 
reaches Grignano bus stop about 5-10 minutes later).


T O U R S
Trieste by Bus
Every Saturday a bus leaves for a tour of Trieste from in front of the 
train station at 14.00.  It takes in all of the main sights to see 
downtown, and there is also a 30-minute stop at St. Giusto Castle, 
where you can walk along the Castle walls or visit the Cathedral or 
simply enjoy the spectacular views.  Tickets may be bought in the Sala 
Eurostar in the main railway station and cost 5.20 Euro, with children 
under 10 travelling free.
