tomorrow, 19 June, at 12:00pm in the L. Stasi seminar room (beside the 
ICTP bar), Dr. Serafina Di Gioia will give a talk on her recent research.

Title: Causal graphical models for natural sciences

Abstract: A fundamental task in various disciplines of natural sciences, 
from Astrophysics to Climate Science, is to find underlying causal 
relations and make use of them. Traditionally, causal relations were 
studied with the application of interventions; however, in many cases 
interventions are difficult or even impossible to conduct. It is then 
necessary to discover causal relations by analyzing statistical 
properties of purely observational data, a task known as causal 
discovery or causal structure learning. The talk will be divided into 
two parts. In the first part, I will give an overview of the most common 
algorithms to perform causal discovery, in the framework of Causal 
Graphical Models, focusing on constraint-based algorithms. In the second 
part, I will present my activities in the context of the new ICTP 
International Consortium for Scientific Computing (ICSC).
