Dear Colleagues,

It gives us great pleasure to invite you to the 7th installment in a
series of */Public Lectures on Number Theory/* which aims to review
venerable problems in the field for a wide scientifically literate audience.

For this episode, we are delighted to host Prof. William Duke
<https://www.math.ucla.edu/%7Ewdduke/> [Distinguished Professor of
Mathematics, UCLA, USA] who will overview "*The Representation of
Integers by Quadratic Forms*" [poster attached].

It is a special one for us at CAMS, and certainly for fellow number
theorists at AUB, their colleagues and their students, for it will be
the first in the series to be held in person, and shall hopefully be
followed by many others as we continue to feature major advances in the
field, and in the process inspire a generation of students to explore
its wonders.

Prof. Duke will indeed be with us at CAMS for the coming week. He will
deliver this talk on *Monday, November 21 at 4:00pm* (Beirut Time) at
*College Hall, Auditorium B1, AUB*. The talk will be also broadcasted on
Zoom
<https://zoom.us/j/92159536005?pwd=TmhtN3RBditxMEU0SUVXOUUycXcvUT09>,
for our international audience.

He will then present a technical seminar in the *Department of
Mathematics* on *Wednesday, November 23 at 3:00pm,* with further details
to follow shortly. Anyone wishing to meet Prof. Duke can email our
executive officer Ms. Hiba Hammoud (hh47 at aub.edu.lb) with the request.

The series is organized by the CAMS Number Theory Research Unit
<https://www.aub.edu.lb/cams/Pages/Number_Theory_Unit.aspx>. Information
on and/or recordings for all the unit’s activities are available on its
webpage. They include, in addition to previous lectures in the series,
recordings of Prof. Gaith Hiary's mini-course on computational number
theory, together with pre-prints produced by undergraduate number theory
fiends who took part in the Mathematics Summer Research Camp
<https://www.aub.edu.lb/fas/math/Pages/src.aspx> (2022 Edition).

We look forward to your participation, as we encourage you to
disseminate the announcement within your network of math enthusiasts.

Best regards,

Jihad R. Touma

Professor and Chair, Department of Physics

Director, Center for Advanced Mathematical Sciences

American University of Beirut
