*/Postdoctoral position in modeling applied to fisheries science/***
IRD (Institute of Research for Development) is recruiting a postdoctoral
researcher with a strong modelling background in quantitative ecology,
fisheries science, applied mathematics or physics, to work within a team
of researchers within the MARBEC research unit (www.umr-marbec.fr
<http://www.umr-marbec.fr/>).
The postdoc will interact with Dr. Manuela Capello, Dr. Laurent Dagorn
and the team of researchers involved in the MANFAD project (MANaging
FADs www.manfad-project.fr <http://www.manfad-project.fr/>). The MANFAD
project is a collaborative research project which involves partners from
the MARBEC lab, as well as international partners (CFR/Indonesia). The
project aims to develop a FAD (Fish Aggregating Devices) management tool
to help managers setting policy measures to mitigate the impacts of
these devices and ensure the sustainability of tropical tuna fisheries
exploiting FADs in the Indian ocean.
The specific task of the postdoc will consist in developing an operating
model accounting for the tuna associative dynamics at Fish Aggregating
Devices (FADs), with the goal of using this operating model to simulate
the effects of different FAD management options on the ecosystem and
fisheries. The model will be parametrized using catch data, electronic
tagging data and acoustic data from echosounder buoys.
We are looking for a candidate with strong analytical and modelling
skills, with interests to apply models to fisheries science, able to
work in a team of researchers. A good knowledge of population dynamics
and previous experience of model fitting to real data is essential, as
well as proficiency with R, Python or other programming languages
(e.g.:C, C++, FORTRAN). A background in stock assessment is a plus.
The postdoc could start on 1^st of September 2022. The position is
funded for 18 to 24 months, depending on the applicant’s experience.
Applicants should send a cover letter describing their interest in the
position, a curriculum vitae, and name and contact information of three
references to: manuela.capello at ird.fr <mailto:manuela.capello at ird.fr>.
Applications may be submitted in either English or French and should be
sent no later than *1^st of* *May, 2022* in electronic format.
For additional information on the position, please contact
manuela.capello at ird.fr.
