Dear colleagues,

this is to advertise the weekly seminar of the Algebra and geometry
group of University of Trieste. On Friday, May 28th at 10:30, Daniele
Agostini (Max Planck Institute fro Mathematics in the Sciences, Leipzig)
will talk about "Algebraic curves and water waves".

The theta functions arising from smooth algebraic curves give rise to
solution to the KP equation. This is a PDE that models the evolution of
waves in shallow water. When the curve becomes singular, the theta
function becomes more degenerate, leading to soliton solutions or even
rational solutions to the KP equation. In this talk, I will present an
overview of some recent results in this area, obtained in collaboration
with different authors.

The seminar will take place online. The Zoom link is
https://us02web.zoom.us/j/87239350702.
You are welcome to extend the invitation to anyone interested.

All the best,
Francesco
