EU-funded researchers develop potential new treatment against SARS-CoV-2
European researchers have developed a promising second generation
antibody that is effective in neutralising the SARS-CoV-2 virus and its
variants, which could be used in both prevention and treatment of COVID-19.

Mariya Gabriel, Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture,
Education and Youth, said:
Quote

To fight the coronavirus, the world urgently needs effective and safe
diagnostics, treatments and vaccines - without these we all remain
vulnerable. Thanks to the work of EU funded researchers, this new
finding could prevent and treat cases of COVID-19, ultimately saving lives.

Success stories
Twinning boosts excellence in cancer research

If countries can't train high-quality research staff, they will struggle
to deliver innovative cancer treatments. An EU-funded project enabled
four academic institutions to exchange staff and share best practices,
resulting in various career advancements and successful research grant
applications. These will benefit citizens through the researchers'
expanding skills to advance cancer treatments.

Water in a loop: how to combat water scarcity on remote islands

Every summer, thousands of tourists travel to Greece’s idyllic islands
to enjoy their sunny beaches. Even the global pandemic couldn’t keep
visitors away, but water scarcity might. Many Greek islands survive on
water imports and are struggling to meet residents’ and agriculture’s
water needs – let alone those of tourists.
