Innovative metal recycling for sustainable tech

EU-funded researchers are developing low-polluting techniques for 
recovering valuable metals from communications and green technology 
waste. This 'urban mining' could help to reduce pollution and ensure a 
secure supply of metals critical to a low-carbon, connected economy.

Research and innovation for sustainable batteries (factsheet)
The new Commission proposal on sustainability requirements for batteries 
in the EU will modernise the EU legislative framework in order to fulfil 
three objectives: strengthen the competitiveness of the EU internal 
battery market, increase the resilience of the EU battery supply chain 
by closing the materials loop, reduce the environmental and social 
impact in all stages of batteries’ life cycle.
