Statement by the ERC Scientific Council on the conclusion of the

Horizon Europe.

    Delays to ERC Calls 2021

Due to the late adoption of the EU budget 2021-2027 and the resulting
delay in launching Horizon Europe, the ERC Calls 2021 will be delayed as
well.
The ERC Calls due to open in January will be rescheduled to the earliest
possible date in 2021, in order to preserve the initially planned call
calendar as much as possible. For the time being, the Proof of Concept
(PoC) grant scheme will not be included in the draft ERC Work Programme
2021.
The ERC hopes to be able to provide further information around mid-January.

Appointment of five new members of the ERC Scientific Council and
extension of the current ERC until the start of Horizon Europe

On 17 December the European Commission announced the names of the five
scientists who will support the Scientific Council from 1 January 2021.
Among the five future members, two come from the “Life Sciences” domain
and three from the “Physical Sciences and Engineering” domain. The
appointment was preceded by a selection process conducted by a
six-person "Identification Committee" under the direction of Prof.
Carl-Henrik Heldin. The new members replace five scientists who left the
Scientific Council.
Furthermore, on 17 December, the European Commission announced the
extension of the current ERC until the start of the new Framework
Programme for Research Horizon Europe and confirmed the remaining
members of the Scientific Council.

    Did you know?

/How to receive feedback on your proposal by the NCP ERC?/
You can send us your draft proposal per e-mail *at least three weeks*
*before the deadline*. The draft should be as complete as possible.
After we have read the draft, you will receive feedback (either by
telephone or via e-mail).
Before or parallel to contacting the NCP, you should always get in touch
with the EU liaison officer of your institution to ensure that support
from the host is available as early as possible. Especially regarding
budget questions, you should get in touch with your host institution.
Additionally, you should ask colleagues of your respective research
field for advice on your proposal in order to get a scientific feedback
as well.
We will communicate our deadline for reading proposal drafts in our next
newsletter, when the final ERC Call deadlines are published.

*National Contact Point European Research Council*

The National Contact Point European Research Council (NCP ERC) works on
behalf of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). It is
jointly operated by the EU-Bureau of the BMBF and the European Liaison
Office of the German Research Organisations (KoWi). The NCP ERC gives
advice on funding opportunities under Horizon 2020 – the EU Framework
Programme for Research and Innovation. Support is offered at all stages
of programme participation. The NCP ERC is the officially recognised
contact point for European Commission Services and forms an integral
part of the official NCP network of the Federal Government of Germany.
For over 20 years, the DLR Project Management Agency, as a competent
service provider in the field of research, innovation, and education,
has been in charge of the headquarters of the German NCP network and
hosts the NCPs for all horizontal programme sections as well as several
thematic NCPs.
The "European Liaison Office of the German Research Organisations"
(KoWi) is the joint service platform of the German research
organisations united in the "Association for the Promotion of European
and International Cooperation in Science e.V.".
