Dear all,
this is to announce the next SISSA/IGAP algebraic geometry seminar,
centered on Calabi-Yau manifolds.

In order to clarify some basic aspects of the topic, we will follow the
second chapter of the book (Calabi-Yau Manifolds and Related Geometries
by M. Gross, D. Huybrechts, D. Joyce), written by Mark Gross.
Our goal is to understand the classic example of the mirror quintic.

SPEAKER: Solomiya MIZYUK - SISSA

TITLE: The Structure of the Kähler Cone & examples of Calabi-Yau
manifolds

WHEN: Thursday, December 10 at 4.30pm (Rome)

ABSTRACT: In the first part of the talk, we will discuss two theorems
due to Wilson about the structure of the Kähler cone $\mathcal{K}_X$ of
a Calabi-Yau threefold $X$. Namely that away from a certain locus its
closure $\overline{\mathcal{K}}_X$ is a rational polyhedral cone and
that it is stable under small deformation of $X$ unless $X$ contains a
quasi-ruled elliptic surface satisfying certain conditions. After that,
we will give some general examples of Calabi-Yau manifolds following
Chapter 14.3 of the book.

Everybody interested is warmly welcomed to attend.

Best regards,
Andrea, Alessandro and Michele
