Title: Spin transport in ultracold Fermi gases
Many strongly correlated quantum fluids exhibit universal transport
properties, notably a famous quantum bound on the internal friction.
In this talk I will discuss transport in a unitary Fermi gas:
strong-coupling computations show that the shear viscosity, which
determines friction, signals almost perfect fluidity in the quantum
degenerate regime. Similarly, spin diffusion becomes slower at strong
interaction and reaches a quantum limit, in agreement with a recent
experiment at MIT. In the case of transverse spin diffusion the spin
current will also precess around the local magnetization. This
Leggett-Rice effect has now been observed and provides new insight
into the effective interaction in a unitary Fermi gas.
