" Angular momentum blockade in nanoscale high-Tc superconducting grains "

Abstract

The arise of an angular momentum blockade in small d-wave superconducting grains embedded in external magnetic field is envisaged. It's shown how abrupt changes in the angular momentum state of the condensate ("angular momentum blockade") occur as a result of variation of the external field. The effect represents a direct analogy with the Coulomb blockade. A Ginzburg–Landau description is adopted to illustrate how a magnetic field induces a deviation from the d-wave symmetry, which is described by a (d_{x2−y2} + id{xy})-order parameter. The volume magnetic susceptibility will be described as a function of the magnetic field, and corresponding magnetization jumps, that should be experimentally observable in superconducting grains, are predicted to occur near equispaced critical values of the field.
