Procedures for Submission and Selection of 2014 ICTP Scientific Programmes

The call for proposals for ICTP activities (deadline 15 February 2013) is now available at    http://www.ictp.it/call-for-proposals.aspx

Submission:

All proposals are to be submitted via the new online system that is available at the following link: http://proposals.ictp.it/proposer/login

Selection:

As per practice, proposals will be grouped according to their scientific areas.  Link to proposals in each area will be sent to the attention of the respective Group Heads when appropriate. In areas where there is no ICTP group, competent ICTP scientists or consultants will be chosen in substitution. If nobody can be identified for this role, the ICTP Scientific Programme Committee will directly seek external advice if necessary.

 As a rule, there will be no automatic peer reviewing or external refereeing of proposals. The Groups (or their substitutes) will be responsible for handling the proposals. They will act to develop and improve them when appropriate, and will provide the ICTP Scientific Programme Committee with their recommendation for acceptance or rejection.

 Groups are welcome to consult with external experts about a small subset of proposals that seem desirable, but could benefit from improvements or ICTP-friendly advice.  Groups do not need to consult external experts about proposals that are in their view clearly adequate, or clearly inadequate.

 Groups should divide proposals into three categories:  Category A (to be accepted); category B (to be discussed further -- groups must provide a numerical ranking) and category C (to be rejected).  

 The Director will hold a meeting in early Spring during which the Group Heads will be invited to discuss their proposed plans of activities for 2014.  The final decision remains with the Director.

Please note that a decreased number of activities is foreseen for the year 2014.  Frugality and external support are strongly encouraged.
