SEMINAR ANNOUNCEMENT
Dr. Simon Brain (Università di Trieste)
TITLE: Introduction to KK-Theory
ABSTRACT: KK-Theory was introduced in the early 1980s by Kasparov as a
generalization of both K-homology and K-theory for $C^*$-algebras.
Over recent years it has found itself to be a key ingredient in
noncommutative geometry.
The aim of this talk is to understand what KK-theory is, in both the
"bounded" setting of noncommutative topology and the "unbounded"
setting of noncommutative geometry, and how these two pictures are
related. Time permitting, I will briefly outline some applications of
KK-theory to index theory.
Monday 4 Feb, 16:00, SISSA Room 136.
