 Abstract

Recent results on the acoustic phonon lasing from electrically or optically
pumped multi-layered semiconductor structures are outlined.  We present theory of electron inversion
in such systems, and phonon cavity formation providing feedback necessary for
achievement of lasing.  Experimental
data on GaAs/AlAs superlatices confirming realization of phonon laser (saser)
device, as well as measurements of phonon amplification are discussed.
