*“S.N.BOSE AND S. CHANDRASEKHAR”*

 **************** *

The first quarter of the twentieth century is looked upon as the Golden
Age for science, art, and literature in India, brought on partly by the
struggle for independence from the British rule. J.C. Bose, C.V. Raman,
M.N. Saha, Srinivasa Ramanujan, and Rabindranath Tagore, by their
achievements in scientific and artistic endeavors became national heroes
along with Jawaharlal Nehru, Mahatma Gandhi, and a host of others active
in the political movement.

In this talk, prof. Wali will reflect upon some highlights of the lives
and achievements of two eminent scientists of the twentieth century:
_Satyendra Nath Bose_ is the founder of the Bose-Einstein Statistics;
_S. Chandrasekhar_, popularly known as Chandra, is well-known for
setting a limit on the mass of a star to become a white dwarf
(Chandrasekhar limit) in the course of its evolution, which eventually
would lead to white dwarf, neutron star and black hole as the three
final stages of a star
