I announce you next OAT-DAUT Seminar:

********************************************************
                 OAT- DAUT SEMINAR
********************************************************

Speaker: Massimo Persic (INAF/Oss. Astr. Trieste)

Title: Very-high-energy gamma-ray astrophysics with MAGIC:
recent achievements and beyond

Date: Wednesday, November 29th, 2007
Time: 12:00 noon
Venue: Villa Bazzoni (via Bazzoni, 2)

**********************************************************
Abstract:
MAGIC, the world's largest single-dish imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescope, is in its second year of operation. I will highlight several issues of TeV astrophysics, both Galactic and extragalactic, that MAGIC has been addressing: e.g., the acceleration of galactic cosmic rays, the emission from microquasars and millisecond pulsars, the physics of relativistic jets, the measurement of the extragalactic background light, the nature of dark matter, tests of quantum gravity. The growing ability of addressing these issues, made possible by the rapidly evolving Cherenkov technique, signals the coming of age of TeV astrophysics.

OATS-DAUT SEMINAR
***********************************************************
Speaker: Fabio La Franca (Univ. di Roma Tre)
Title: The evolution of active galactic nuclei

Date: Wednesday, December 6th, 2006
Time: 12:00 noon
Venue: Villa Bazzoni

Abstract:
We will present the latest results on the cosmological evolution of the density of active galactic nuclei (AGNs) and of their NH distribution up to redshift 4. We used the HELLAS2XMM 2-10 keV X-ray sample combined with other published catalogs. Our best fit is obtained with a luminosity-dependent density evolution model where low-luminosity AGNs peak at z~0.7, while high-luminosity AGNs peak at z~2.0. There is evidence that the fraction of absorbed (NH>1022 cm-2) AGNs decreases with the intrinsic X-ray luminosity and increases with the redshift. Our results will be compared with the latest analyses on the density of AGN derived from mid-infrared surveys carried out with SPITZER. Using these data, we will present the estimate of the history of the density of supermassive black holes in the Universe.

OATS-DAUT SEMINAR
***********************************************************
Speaker: Roberto Maiolino (INAF/Oss. Astr. Roma)
Title: Metals and dust in the early universe

Date: Wednesday, December 13th, 2006
Time: 12:00 noon
Venue: Villa Bazzoni

Abstract:
The metallicity of galaxies is a powerful tracer of their integrated star formation history. Thanks to recent, extensive spectroscopic surveys of high redshift galaxies and active galactic nuclei (AGNs), it is now possible to investigate the metallicity evolution of these objects through the cosmic ages. I will review some of the recent work in this field, and I will discuss the implications within the context of galaxy evolution. Star forming galaxies show a significant metallicity evolution in the redshift range 0
