Iowa State University has an immediate opening for a PhD student to
begin studies in the Fall 2017 term. The student will be a member of a
multi-institutional team sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy to
compare different methods for modeling climate variability and change
along with their impacts on the energy-water-land nexus.
Responsibilities of this position include regional climate modeling over
the continental United States using the International Centre for
Theoretical Physics Regional Climate Model (RegCM). The student will
develop and apply performance metrics to output from global and regional
climate models in order to develop a deeper understanding of model
behavior, skill and uncertainty. The student also will work closely with
collaborators who are using the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT).
The position requires programming experience in Fortran or C along with
strong English oral and written communication skills. The university's
admissions requirements are summarized at
https://www.admissions.iastate.edu/apply/pdf/intl_gr_instr.pdfNote that

score on either the TOEFL or IELTS exam.Experience with atmospheric
models and Unix (Linux) computing environments is preferred.
Please contact Prof. Raymond Arritt (rwarritt at iastate.edu
