Thanks, Samy.

I did see the few lines in the user guide on how to switch on the slab ocean model.

I assume the process is more complicated than just switching it on, though. For

example, in Dr. Solmon's 2015 Atmos. Chem. Phys. paper, they refer to producing both

restoring and adjusted runs and archiving heat flux terms. Also, how are the ocean temps

initialized and is a spinup needed? Is there any nudging to obs SST? So, more of the details

of running it and how complicated that is. I may want to use it in a proposal but I need

a better sense of the amount of learning curve involved.

Hello Dr.Michael,

This is the technical guide for RegCM4 and in chapter 6 it mentions using of ocean slab model and how to activate it. About SST from NOAA in high resolution, RegCM4 reads hourly SST data from ERA-INTERIM and weekly from OI_WK, according to readme.namelist in Doc directory I don't think it will read it since there is no defining name for these data, but you can ask Graziano "software developer of RegCM4" for more assistance, this is his e-mail "ggiulian at ictp.it".

Hope this will help.

Today's Topics:

  1. OI SST V2 High Resolution (Michael Notaro)
  2. Slab ocean model (Michael Notaro)

Subject: [RegCNET] OI SST V2 High Resolution

Is RegCM4 able to use the NOAA OI SST V2 High Resolution Dataset (daily, 0.25 degree, 1981-present)

for LBCs? If so, how? My understanding is that the model is only configured to take in weekly or monthly

products.

Subject: [RegCNET] Slab ocean model

Is there any documentation on how to run RegCM4 with the slab ocean model option?

I found minimal discussion in the gforge documents (e.g. user's guide) and a brief discussion in the following article.

http://www.atmos-chem-phys.net/15/8051/2015/acp-15-8051-2015.pdf
Is the RegCM4-slab ocean model running without any issues and is it straightforward to use?

Thanks, Michael
