Dear All

we have now frozen the version of RegCM4 4.4.5. To our knowledge, this
version has no "known" bugs, although of course it may still have unknown
bugs. This last version has a few differences compared to the last one you
uploaded after my last email, in particular:

1) A Fix for the minimum level of water hydrometeors concentrations
causing spurious large values of QC at topmost model level.
2) Implementation of a satellite soil moisture initialization useful
especially for seasonal runs (thanks to Luca Caporaso for providing the
ESACCI dataset for this).
3) Documentation for the python CORDEX post-processing script developed
in ICTP (directory Tools/Script/pycordex)

Especially due to the point 1) above I need to ask you to
DOWNLOAD AND USE THIS LAST VERSION OF THE CODE at the usual address:

svn checkout https://gforge.ictp.it/svn/regcm/tags/RegCM-4.4.5

The package can be downloaded also from gforge as the 4.4.5 release.
Eventual incremental bug fixes on the STABLE line of the 4.4.5 if needed
will be tagged as 4.4.5.X.

At this point we WILL NOT incrementally change this version any more, so
you can consider it as (hopefully) stable, pending the discovery of bugs
or problems, which will be promptly fixed and announced to you.

VERY IMPORTANT: Since we changed several things in this version compared
to the one you might have been using, you probably need to go through your
testing and tuning again. I apologize for this, but we did find several
problems along the way which needed to be fixed, particularly in
connection with the CLM4.5 coupling, and so had to modify the version
often. However this one should not change for a while (pending bugs of
course), so you can do your tuning and expect that it will be good for
some time. We ourselves are trying to find optimal configurations over
different domains, and when we are confident in those will send them to
you as guidelines.

We have a parallel "development" version in which we are implementing
the non-hydrostatic option of MM5, and possibly other features. We will
make this available as a new frozen version only when we are sure it is
bug-free and working as it should. If you are interested in contributing
to this development, you can contact Graziano at ggiulian at ictp.it .

I apologize about asking to download yet a new version, but again
hopefully things will be more stable now. As always, if you see any
strange behavior or problem, or have any question, let us know.

with my best regards, Filippo Giorgi
