I would like to announce a postdoctoral research position opening at
Lawrence Berkeley National Lab:

The postdoctoral candidate would join a new project aimed at understanding
the possible role of human influence on extreme weather statistics: the
Calibrated and Systematic Characterization, Attribution, and Detection of
Extremes (CASCADE) project.  Our research will advance our understanding of
climate extremes and enhance our ability to attribute and project changes
in their risk because of anthropogenic climate change. The position calls
for an individual with experience in extreme weather/climate phenomena,
climate modeling, and multiscale dynamics of the Earth’s atmosphere (hence
why I am targeting the RegCNET).

The position entails using a combination of scaling theory, short-range
forecasts, and in situ and satellite data in order to identify
opportunities for improved extreme weather simulation. The postdoctoral
candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to three other major
‘work packages’ within the CASCADE project, including: attributing and
projecting changes in extreme events, application of novel statistical
methods for analyzing climate extremes, and development of high performance
computational pipelines. The candidate will also have the opportunity to
collaborate with a multi-lab consortium toward development of advanced
scale-aware representations of critical atmospheric processes. Ultimately,
this effort will lead to demonstrable improvements in the target Earth
system model and an improved understanding of climate extremes.
