dear all,
this is just a reminder that the deadline for applications for the Ghana
summer school of weather and climate forecasting is fast approaching.
Details of the school are given below.
The lecturer line-up has expanded to include a wide range of expertise
in the atmospheric sciences, and field site experiments (tethered
balloon, piballs, ground flux stations) and lab classes in crop and
water resource software are also planned.
It promises to be a busy but very fruitful and enjoyable two week event!
Please see below for application details,
on behalf of the organising committee,
Adrian Tompkins

2nd Ewiem Nimdie International Summer School
Theme: Weather and Climate Forecasting in Africa and its Application
to Agriculture & Water Resource Management.
19 July – 31 July 2010
The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology (KNUST), Kumasi,
Ghana, in collaboration with ICTP, and the Universities of Reading
and Leeds and GMet will organize the 2nd Ewiem Nimdie International
Summer School, at KNUST from 19 July to 31 July 2010.
Following the successful organization of the first summer school in
2008, this summer school aims at bringing together students,
researchers and forecasters from Africa and around the world to
participate in field studies and lectures and practical classes in
West African Meteorology and Climate
Short range forecasting and seasonal forecasting
Applications in Agriculture & Water Resource Management
An important aspect of the Summer School is the ample time allotted
to discussions/interactions and oral/poster presentations from
participants.
Funding
The Summer School forms part of the ICTP Training and Capacity
building programme in meteorology and climate science, and is funded
by a grant from the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE grant
241.FITU.11.G).
PARTICIPATION
The Summer School is open to scientists, young researchers and PhD
students working in areas of Atmospheric Physics, Meteorology,
Climatology, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences without workshop
fees. Scholarships will be available to postgraduate students from
African countries outside Ghana. For non-African students, a
participation fee of 400 EUR will be paid to take care of
accommodation, internal transport and feeding for the entire duration
of the summer school.
