Dear Friends,
For the third year the International Center for Theoretical Physics
(ICTP), Trieste-Italy, decided to lead the Regional Climate Modeling
and Impacts session during the EGU2010 activities. We are very glad to
announce the start of the Abstract submission for the EGU General
Assembly 2010 (EGU2010), 02 May 2010 - 07 May 2010, Vienna, Austria..
You are cordially invited to browse through the Sessions CL4.3
(Convener: A. Zakey Co-Conveners: F. Giorgi, R. Arritt ) and submit your
abstract.
Thank you for considering contributing to the success of session CL4.3
with your presentation. Please inform also all your colleagues about
this session.
Regional climate models are very important climate research tools
available to scientists from developing and developed countries.
Modeling of regional climate scales, and at time scales from months to
decades, are of very importance, and a key for climate change and Earth
system science, for example, The anthropogenic climate change impacts,
Water resources, Crop production and Agricultures. Biogeophysical
changes associated with land-cover and land-use change can be studied by
regional climate models. For example, conversion of natural vegetation
to croplands can increase or decrease temperature depending on whether
conversion occurs in tropical or temperate areas, and can increase or
decrease humidity depending on the type of natural vegetation replaced,
and the type of crops established. Recent studies show considerable
effect of atmospheric chemistry and aerosols on climate on regional scale.
The session focuses on the following topics:
* Regional climate modeling and the ICTP RegCM3
* The physical processes that regulate regional climates
* Drought monitoring using Regional Climate framework over Arid and
Semi-arid regions
* Aerosol feedback on regional Climate scale
* Climate change and seasonal prediction at the regional scale
* Regional climate information from global climate models
* Land-Surface interaction and climate feedback
* Climate impacts on crop production
* Extreme events, flood, and drought
* Desertification and climate impacts
We hope to see you in Vienna from 2 -7 May, 2010.
All the best wishes
Yours Sincerely
Ashraf Zakey
