Dear Bekele,
Do you want to display precepitation field or extract the values? Your GrADS 
script seems different to me from the usual. To display you have to use 
display comman say 'd ave(tpr, t=1, t=248)'
If you want to extract values you need fwrite command. One more thing is 
that ave is a GrADS function, so you may have to use other word or character 
for define command.
