Dear Colleagues
it is with great pleasure that we'd like to invite you to the round
table that TWAS has organized for the 2017 edition of TRIESTE NEXT.
The title of the event is:
*SCIENCE DIPLOMACY: A BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATERS*
The Mediterranean basin is a cradle where about 500 million people share
resources, cultures, needs. Cooperation between South and North is most
needed, here. Could Science Diplomacy be the bridge that links people
and nations, easing joint actions on the most urgent issues (water,
climate change, overcrowding, education, brain drain)?
Four international panelists will offer different perspectives and views
on these hot topics.
They are:
*Thameur Chaibi* - TWAS Fellow - Director of Research
National Research Institute for Rural Engineering, Water, and Forestry,
Ariana, Tunisia
“The Future of Water Scarcity in North Africa: Moving from Challenges to
Opportunities”
*Nadia Pinardi* - Professor - Department of Physics and Astronomy, Alma
Mater Studiorum University of Bologna
"Operational oceanography to achieve the UN ocean sustainable
development goals"
*Jauad El Kharraz* - Head of Research - The Middle East Desalination
Research Center (MEDRC), Al Khuwair, Sultanate of Oman
“The role of joint programs and networks to boost cooperation on the
major challenges of the Mediterranean region”
*Tugba Evrim Maden* - Hydropolitics Researcher - Expert Turkish Water
Institute (SUEN), " Water Diplomacy in MENA: Opportunities and
challenges in the Euphrates and Tigris Basin"
21 September at 18:00 - @ Museo Revoltella - via Diaz 27 Trieste
