To mark the fifth anniversary of its founding the *International Welcome 
Club*in Trieste is to host an event of considerable cultural value.

Friday 29 May at 10.30 am,

In the Sala Piccola FENICE, via S. Francesco 5 - Trieste,

Prof. *Maria Cristina Pedicchio*

Full professor of Algebra at the University of Trieste – Department of 
Mathematics and Geosciences

and President of the National Institute of Oceanography and Experimental 
Geophysics (OGS),**

will give a talk on:

*Why so few? Women in Science and Technology*

Internationally orientated and focused from the outset on themes 
relating to the presence and role of women in science, Prof. Pedicchio 
readily accepted the invitation from our Club to give a lecture in 
English to Club members and guests.

An important figure in the world of science, Prof. Pedicchio has held 
many high-profile posts throughout her career with a large number of 
university and scientific organisations, national and international 
panels and committees, ministerial groups, etc.
