*Last few days! Art exhibit at the Revoltella Museum by Jagoda BUIC *- 
not to be missed - an international painter, film producer, costume 
artist with works on display at New York's Metropolitan museum. She will 
be in Trieste on 17/1/14. Revoltella museum is in via Diaz nr 27, close 
to Piazza Venezia. Open until 19/1/2014, each day except Tuesdays, from

*Fantastic performance by Cirque Eloize at the Rossetti Theatre until 19/1*

*The show called "D" *is hard to describe, but easy to like and will 
take place from 15/1 to 19/1 at the Rossetti theatre in Viale XX 
settembre. There are 16 international performers who have worked in 
circuses and will present acrobatical scenes and acts that range from 
comics, science fiction, rock music, break dance, urban bike, etc., 
topped by incredible scenography and costumes. Shows are on from 15

*Trieste Film Festival 2014 at the Tripcovich & Miela Theatres - until

*This festival celebrates the 100thanniversary of the first world war 
*with its first movie at 10.45 "La Grande guerra" (The great war, by 
Mario Monicelli with actors Gassman and Sordi. The movie will be 
followed by "Cinema Brunch" a real novelty of foods at the bar at 13.00 
(booking required). At 15:00 at Teatro Miela (close by) screening of the 
documentary "I sentieri della gloria, in viaggio con Monicelli sui 
luoghi della Grande guerra" made in 1959. At Teatro Tripcovich look at 
the photo exhibit related to WW1. A photo exhibit will be displayed at 
the Tripcovich theatre with 15 photos takenin 1959 on the set of the 
film "The Great war"

*The Collection of Scaramanga' di Altomonte (Collezione Scaramanga' di 
Altomonte) *in via F. Filzi 1, downtown is a prestigious foundation that 
exhibits, on a rotation basis, documents, furniture, ceramics and works 
of art.It is in an apartment which is part of an 1800s building where 
Baron Giuseppe Scaramanga' used to live you. On display the first 
printed books dating from 1455 onwards and a rich collection of antique 
playing cards and prints. The rooms are still furnished in the 1800s

*The Civico Museo Sartorio is a Villa *that**once belonged to the 
Sartorio dynasty originally from Sanremo. A branch of the family moved 
in 1775 to Trieste as part of its business expansion. Pietro Sartorio 
here with his family and bought the house, previously owned by the 
merchant family Faraon, originary from Alexandria of Egypt. The last 
heir of the Sartorio family, Baroness Anna Segrè Sartorio, left the 
villa and all its furniture to Trieste's city council with the explicit 
wish to make it a public museum.

The villa was used by the Allies, as their headquarter after WW2, as can 
be seen by the marks on the tiles and walls where the telephone and 
electric leads were brought through. Besides the villa itself being a 
very interesting building architecturally, it contains drawings of 
famous XVII century artists Giambattista Tiepolo.

*The Revoltella Modern Art Museum is *located downtown; it was**founded 
in Trieste <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trieste>in 1872 
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1872>by Baron Pasquale Revoltella 
<http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Pasquale_Revoltella&action=edit&redlink=1>who 
left his house to the city (located in Piazza Venezia) after he passed 
away. It still displays all the art works, furniture and books of his 
time. The main building was built in 1858, designed by Friedrich Hitzig

City acquired the Brunner Building located nearby in order to expand the 
original collection. This building has been completely utilized only

the seafront downtown. It tells the history of shipyards, navigation and 
fishing in the Adriatic Sea, displaying models of ships, dioramas and

and experiments by Guglielmo Marconi.Open each day from Thursday to

*Risiera di San Sabba*is a former rice-husking facility that was built 
in 1913. After September 8, 1943, the Nazi occupation forces used the 
premises as prison camp, headquarters where deported prisoners were 
sorted out to be sent to Germany and Poland, raided goods depot, prison 
and extermination camp for hostages, partisans, political and Jewish 
prisoners. On April 4, 1944 a crematory plant was installed and made 
operative. In 1965, a decree issued by the President of the Republic 
raised the "Risiera di San Sabba" to the status of National Monument. 
Free entry. Open daily from 9.00 - 19.00. Take bus 8 from the train

The *Giant Cave - Grotta Gigante*is considered the largest tourist cave 
in the world, situated in the Karst half an hour from the city centre. 
An exclusive feature of the cave is the horizontal pendulum, constructed 
by university researchers in order to calculate the slightest movements 
of the earth's crust. Visiting times every hour: 10:00 - 18:00. Each
