*WHAT'S ON THIS WEEKEND27 February - 2 March 2014*

*/Quote of the day/*

/I love those who can smile in trouble, who can gather strength from
distress and grow brave by reflection. 'Tis the business of little minds
to shrink, but they whose heart is firm, and whose conscience approves
their conduct, will pursue their principles unto death./

*/Leonardo da Vinci/*

*Carnival: last day is Tuesday, 4 March*

Carnival in Trieste is a special event and the amount of costumes,
masqueraded people, carnival wagons is higher here than in most Italian
cities. It is prepared well in advance by many as there is a grand,
final competition for the best costumes and carnival wagons in this
area. So, these days and until Tuesday 4 March, don't be surprised if
you bump into groups of people dressed in funny costumes. Join in the
fun as you can purchase cheap wigs and carnival hats, clothes, glasses
in the many oriental stores downtown and take part in Muggia's Carnival
dances on Saturday nite. If you really want to get a fill of carnival,
Italy's top place to go to is Venice.

Carnival will be celebrated these days in Trieste's neighbourhoods and
the following places appear to be quite interesting:

At MUGGIA today at 17:00 in the main square, Piazza Marconi - where the
best carnival costumes and wagons come from - the godmother of the
festival, a beautiful young maiden, will host the opening followed by
the Ballo della Verdura (Vegetable Dance) and many entertaining things
to see like acrobats, jugglers, fire-eaters and musicians until 19:00.
Afterwards, they will walk freely from there around the rest of the
town. The main show will take place in piazza Marconi on Sunday 2/3 at
13:15 with over 2.000 costumes and wagons.

At SERVOLA - the historical cradle of Trieste's carnival - the
inauguration will be today at 15:30. There will be food kiosks and music
in the evenings.

At OPICINA in the karst today at 18.00 they will inaugurate the 47th
edition of the Karst Carnival with masqueraded people, music and fun.
The main show will take place on Saturday in Opicina at 14.00 when all
the carnival wagons will drive through Opicina.

*Tuesday 4 March : LAST DAY OF CARNIVAL with aPARADE at 14:00 hrs*

The last day Tuesday, 4 March marks the 2014 Carnival Competition with a

who left his house to the city (located in Piazza Venezia) after he
passed away. It still displays all the art works, furniture and books of
his time. The main building was built in 1858, designed by Friedrich
Hitzig <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friedrich_Hitzig> and later on, in
1907 the City acquired the Brunner Building located nearby in order to
expand the original collection. This building has been completely
