WHAT'S ON THIS WEEKEND 			         9 -11 August 2013

The BARCOLISSIMA FEAST
Starting from tomorrow at 20.30 in Barcola and ongoing until 18 Aug. there
will be many activities and food, clothes, jewellery, ice cream stalls,
concerts and alot of fun. Food stalls will serve all kinds of food and
refreshments including  freshly cooked local fish dishes.

EUROCARNIVAL in Muggia
Muggia will be very lively these days until 15 August as the EuroCarnival
festival will take off at 18.30 today. There will be several international
bands and local folk groups, food stalls and entertainment. Tomorrow at
19.00 there will be a Carnival show and groups dressed in colorful
carnival clothes will walk downtown to show off their costumes.  On
Sunday, along the Lungomare Venezia at 19.00, there will be a very
entertaining boat competition as several groups are scheduled to compete
with each other in funny, home-made "boats" that will make you laugh your
heads off.

FREE MUSEUMS on Sunday
On Sunday 11 Aug., residents and people born in Trieste can visit the
following museums for free: Castello di San Giusto, Museo civico di storia
ed arte e orto lapidario, Museo Sartorio, Museo Revoltella, Museo d’arte
orientale, Museo teatrale “Schmidl”, Museo Morpurgo, Museo di Storia
Patria, Orto Botanico, Acquario, Museo del Mare.

Tonite at 21.00 at Caffe' degli Specchi in Piazza Unita', performance by
sopranos Marianna Prizzon and Marzia Postogna and pianist Constantini.

ROCK & ROLL
On Saturday, 11 August at 21.00 in Piazza Verdi, concert by the Orme, a
popular Italian rock-pop group. Free for all.

JAZZ at Dawn - Amazingly early, but not to be missed!
On Sunday 11 Aug. at 4.50 a.m. (that's right!) special (one and only)
"Concert at Dawn" at Molo Audace (opposite Piazza Unita') facing the sea.
Glauco Venier, one of the most popular jazz players on the international
scene will perform as the sun rises. Free for all.

OPEN AIR CINEMA: Giardino pubblico
Tonite at 21.15 at the public gardens downtonwn, see "The Master", ticket
costs euro 5/head. In Italian.

LUCI & SUONI, Lights & Sounds in Piazza Venezia (after Piazza Unita')

At 21.30 on Fridays and Saturdays in Italian, the Lights & Sounds show
about the sad story of Maximilian d'Absburg from Miramare to Mexico and
his wife Carlotta who dwelled in the Miramare Castle in Trieste in the
XXIX century.  Tenor Giuseppe Di Stefano will sing for the public. Every
Monday in German and Fridays and Saturdays in Italian. Ongoing until 24/8.
Free for all.



TOURING THIS AREA

TORRI DI SLIVIA CAVE
This cave is considered one of the marvels of Triese's karst and has
beautiful valuts, peculiar stalagtites and stalagmites ofabout 7 mt tall.
The most famous are the stalgmitic towers, a group of 8 concretions after
which the cave is named. Open in August each day for guided visits only at
10.30 - 14.00 - 15.30 and 17.00. Ticket:  Euro 8/head. It is located at
Duino Aurisina, take bus 44 from either Roiano, train station or Piazza
Oberdan.

GUIDED TOUR OF TRIESTE every day at 10.30 a.m.: A 2 hours guided walking
tour through the main sites and monuments of Trieste. The tour is in
Italian and English and costs euro 7/pers. Book your tour by calling the
FVG Tourist Office in via dell' Orologio 1 (on the corner of Piazza
Unità): 040 3478312.

The Natural History Museum - See one of the most intact dinosaur skeletons
in the world: "Antonio", a  dinosaur discovered in Trieste (Duino) a few
years ago, see fossils, old 1800 furniture, books, instruments and old and
new mirabilia. Located in via Tominz, 4 - tel 0406758658; open Mondays to
Saturdays, 9.00-14.00. Take bus 22 from the train station.

The Miramare Castle is right next to the ICTP and is open every day -
except on Monday mornings - from 9.00 to 18.30. Entrance to the
surrounding park is free (8.00 - 19.00). The location, gardens, castle
with the lovely decor and furnishings, paintings,rooms full of history are
not to be missed. Ticket: Euro 4/head. For more info:

The Natural Reserve of Miramare, WWF, is located in a building inside the
park of  Miramare and is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 - 13:00
and 14:00 - 16:00. Entrance costs Euro 2,50/head.

Botanical Gardens  in via Marchesetti, 2
Open the whole year through, from 9.00- 13.00  Take bus 25 from Piazza

The Giant Cave - Grotta Gigante is considered the largest tourist cave in
the world, situated in
the Triestine Karst (Carso), half an hour from the city center. An
exclusive feature of the cave is the horizontal pendulum, constructed by
university researchers in order to calculate the slightest movements of
the earth's crust. Visiting times every hour: 10:00 - 18:00. Each visit
lasts one hour. Entrance ticket:  Euro 11/each. For groups of over 15
persons: Euro 5/head. Take bus 42 from Piazza Oberdan and get off at Borgo
Grotta, Sgonico – proceed by foot for 5 minutes – follow road sign for
Grotta Gigante. Wear comfortable shoes, no heels. Check website:

DREHER BEER MUSEUM
THE ONLY ONE OF THE KIND IN ITALY IN Via Torrebianca 41, Trieste. It
displays objects, documents, posters, ads that belong to the historical
tradition of this old beer factory. Open only on Wednesdays, from 16.30 -

SUMMER FERRIES
Summer ferries (Delfino Verde) to Grado until 1/9/13: Every day departure
from Molo Audace in Trieste (close to Piazza Unità) at 08:15, 12.45 and
16:45. Trip lasts one and a half hours. One way ticket: euro 6,65 / return

Ferry boats to Slovenia & Croatia ongoing until 1st September: hydrofoils
departing from  Molo IV (2' from the train station) on Tuesdays,
Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays. Also this Saturday 6/7 to the Slovenian
coastal town of Pirano and to the Croatian town of Rovigno. Take your
valid ID card/passport along and buy yr ticket at the Samer & Co. shipping
in Molo IV at least 45 mins before departing. Timetables and prices

OSMIZE
For those interested in going to an "osmiza" or private farm house in the
karst hills, there are many open during this weekend. The origins of the
osmiza dates back to the Austrian times when the Austrian Emperor Joseph
II gave permission to all his citizens to sell directly their wine and
some of their own goods (cheese, eggs, bread, ham) for a period of eight
days. The word comes from the Slovenian language, "osem" (eight). Check
