*WHAT'S ON THIS WEEK 6 - 9 OCTOBER 2011*

SPECIAL EVENT IN TRIESTE: "LA BARCOLANA" from 5 to 9 October*

*The Barcolana is one of the most famous sailing regattas in the 
Mediterranean Sea. The competition will take place for the 43rd time in 
the Gulf of Trieste on Sunday 9 October at 10:00 with over 1000 sailing 
boats taking part in the race. It is really a unique sight to watch 
either from the sea front near Barcola (bus 36) or from a higher vantage 
point such as the "Napoleonica" path overlooking the town (take the tram 
in Piazza Oberdan) or from Strada del Friuli near the Victory Light 
House (Faro della Vittora) reachable by bus 42 or 44 from Piazza 
Oberdan. There are side events on the "Rive" ,the sea promenade in front 
of Piazza Unità all week, live music concerts in Piazza Unità on Friday 
and Saturday night and kiosks and stands, offering all kinds of items 
ranging from sailing products to technical equipments, clothes, books, 
gastronomy etc. The entertainment evening in Piazza Unità will end with

ART & CULTURAL EXHIBITIONS*

*Today, on the occasion of the Barcolana sailing competition, 
inauguration of an art exhibition ""In Arte... Ursus. E Venti sul Mare" 
*at 18:00 on the historical *URSUS Crane in MOLO IV*. The exhibit is 
organized by the Associazione artistica Carpe Artem and presents the 
works of 20 artists. There will also be an accordion concert on board by 
Ghenadie Rotari, followed by poetry reading by actor Francesco Gumitta. 
The exhibition on the Ursus crane is free and will remain open until 16 
October with the following timings: Everyday 15:00 - 19:00 and Sat and 
Sunday 10:00 - 12:00/ 15:00 - 19:00**

Revoltella Museum "Caccia al Tesoro" (Treasure Hunt*) at the 
Contemporary Art Section, dislocated in different areas of the Museum, 
from the ground level to the 6th floor as in a 'treasure hunt" with 
interesting new works, installations, crafts, photography. Ongoing until 
4 December. Entrance ticket euro 6. Open daily (except Tuesday) from 
10:00 - 19:00.

Contemporary Art Exhibition "BIENNALE DIFFUSA*": * *This exhibition is 
an extension of the renown 54th International Venice Biennale event 
organized by famous art critic Vittorio Sgarbi and is held at "Magazzino 
26" in the old port of Trieste. From ICTP, take bus nr 6 and stop in 
Viale Miramare at the bus stop right after the main entrance of the 
show, ask the driver in case. It takes a 5-minute walk to reach the 
building, Magazzino 26. Entrance tickets for ICTP scientists, visitors 
and staff - bring your ICTP badge along - euro 6. *New exhibit on the 
ground floor of Italian artist and sculptor Pordenone Montanari, who is 
considered by the international critic as the new Picasso and Cezanne.* 
You can take bus 6 or 36 that will drop you on the main road (viale 
Miramare) and then proceed by foot.

"Evraiki", *the Mediterranean Diaspora from Corfu to Trieste" at the 
Carlo and Vera Wagner Museum in via del Monte 5. Ongoing until 20 Jan 
2012. Entrance euro 5.

CLASSICAL MUSIC*

*Classical Music concert at the Miramare Castle on Friday 7 Oct at 20:30 
*in the Throne room, featuring baroque music with Dutch violinist 
Lidewij van der Voot and theorbist Fred Jabkods. Entrance ticket 4 euro. 
It is advisable to be there ahead of time as there are only 80 seats 
available. The concert is organized by the Wunderkammer association.

VERDI SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA CONCERT SEASON 2011: * *Ludwig van Beethoven*/, 
Coriolano, Overture in Do minore op.62/. *Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart 
*/Concerto in Si bemolle maggiore/ and *Ludwig van Beethoven, */Sinfonia 
n.7 in La maggiore op.92 /, *directed by Francesco Lanzillota, on Fri 7 
Oct (at 20:30) and Sat 8 Oct (at 18:00). *There is a 50% reduction on 
tickets purchased "last minute" (one hour before the show) for all 
performances directly at the Verdi's ticket office. Only for the Sat 
afternoon performances young people under 26 can purchase tickets for

* "Open Space" at the Revoltella museum ongoing until 9 October: *The 
museum's terrrace overlooking the city and with a stunning view on the 
bay has organized a number of food and wine tasting events as well as 
guided tours of various sections of the museum. The prices indicated 
here below include the entrance ticket to the museum. It is necessary to

wine expert, this week: Wines form the Collio and Carso plus a guided

sparkling wine (piano), live music, plus a guided tour to the exhibition

with the "Musique Boutique" group (voice, keyboards and sax) from 13:30 
to 16:30

and Sunday afternoon until evening with music, dance exhibitions and

*SPECIAL GUIDED TOURS*

*"Trieste, literary atmospheres, an inspiration for many great writers", 
on Saturday 8 October t at 16:30:* A 2 hours guided walking tour through 
the literary history, the anecdotes and the life in the city of some of 
the most outstanding figures in modern literature; on the imaginary and 
symbolic footsteps of Italo Svevo, James Joyce, Umberto Saba, Fulvio 
Tomizza, as well as Claudio Magris and Veit Heinichen. The tour is in 
Italian and English and costs euro 5/pers. It is necessary to book your
