To all persons traveling to countries where security phase I or higher
is in force.
Dear all,
NEW MANDATORY SECURITY TRAINING COURSE
In 2005 was introduced by UN that persons traveling on a mission would
need to complete the course Basic Security in the Field. Now, a new
course entitled "Advanced Security in the Field" (ASITF) is introduced
by the Department of Safety and Security (DSS), in conjunction with a
working group from the Inter-Agency Security Management Network.
The new course is mandatory for all UN system staff members,
consultants and associated personnel who travel to a country designated
as Security Phase I or higher.
The course is designed to educate UN personnel on how to best avoid or
minimize potential threats and risks, and indicate what they can do if
they find themselves faced with conditions of insecurity.
The course can be taken from UNESCO's intranet site (PC required), or
via the web from the UN-DSS website http://dss.un.org.
The connection to the UN website and the access to the course is
possible from both PCs and MACs but is anyhow rather slow. Please use
Microsoft Internet Explorer to connect: the software Shockwave is
required and will be downloaded automatically if not already installed.
ASITF is available in all six official UN languages.
For registration please connect to the DSS web portal at
http://dss.un.org and insert your data as requested indicating your
UNESCO e-mail address (for example r.torre at unesco.org)
When the registration procedure has been completed, the verification
code must be requested through DSS helpdesk.
On the first connection after registration, the user will have to login
with his/her UNESCO e-mail address, password and verification code.
The latter will not be requested after the first login.
In case of problems in the registration process or with any other
technical issues, please contact dsshelp at un.org for assistance.
After having successfully completed the ASITF learning course, you
should send a copy of the certificate to Personnel at ICTP.
SECURITY CLEARANCE SYSTEM
Please also note that the UN Department of Safety and Security has
introduced a new, web-based Integrated Security Clearance and Tracking
System (ISECT) for Latin America, the Caribbean, Pakistan, Ethiopia,
Sudan, Egypt and the Philippines.
All security clearance requests for travel to those countries will be
managed exclusively by ISECT. Requests sent by fax or e-mail will no
longer be accepted.
The person traveling is responsible for requesting and obtaining a
security clearance, the request should be made not later than one week
before the travel. You may yourself request the security clearance via
ISECT, and inform about this on the travel request form. Or, you may
ask Operations and Travel to obtain the clearance for you.
It is recalled that a person traveling to a country in which a security
phase is in force, without having obtained the security clearance and
without having taken the mandatory courses, may find himself without
the insurance coverage of UNESCO for accidents.
In order to use ISECT, you need to register via the DSS web portal:
click the ISECT registration box, and your will be registered in the
ISECT system when registering for the ASITF course.
Should you need assistance to get your security clearance through ISECT
procedure and for any query about basic and advanced security learning
courses please contact Ms. R.Torre ext 531.
Thank you for your attention.
