A R T  &  E X H I B I T I O N S
This website gives details of all museums in Trieste and the

Below is a brief list of some other exhibitions going on locally.
As well as the permanent collections on display at the Civico Museo  
Sartorio (Largo Papa Giovanni XXIII), all year there is also the  
"Histria" exhibition of restored works of art by Paolo Veneziano and  
Tiepolo.  Open Mon-Fri 10-17, Sat 10-13. Closed Sun and holidays.  More

Until 24 April 2007, there is an exhibition on the psychedelic art of  
Isaac Abrams "The shape of mind" in Via Duca d'Aosta 6.  From Tue-Sat  
17-20, Sun 11-13.  Free entrance.
An exhibition entitled "Tatuaggio - arte antica e contemporanea"  
(Tatoos - an ancient and contemporary art), organized by the Comune di  
Trieste is on show in the Sala ex Albo Pretorio (piazza Piccolo, 3)  
until 6 May.  Open daily 10-13 and 17-20.  Free entrance.
Ongoing exhibition at the Civico Museo Sartorio (Largo Papa Giovanni  
XXIII) entitled Valleys of Memory - Ancient People Sites and Images  
from Swat.  The subject is 50 years of the Italian Archaeological  
Mission in Pakistan.  Open until 29 April 2007, from Tues-Sun from  
9-19.
Exhibition at the Caffe Stella Polare (via Dante Alighieri, 14, near  
the Ponterosso Canal) of works by the artist Bruna Daus.  Until 19  
April.
Duino Castle

Duino castle is without doubt among one of the most attractive castles  
in Europe and is still the official residence of the Torre e Tasso  
royal family.  It was recently opened up to the public for the first  
time.  From its cliff top location it overlooks a small fishing village  
and is surrounded by extensive gardens.  Inside, you can see the  
furnishings, pictures, books and mementoes collected over centuries.
Opening times: 09:30 to 17:30.  Closed Tuesday.

You can reach Duino easily by the blue APT bus 51 (the airport bus), or  
the number 44 orange bus from Piazza Oberdan.  Once there you can also  
take in some of the breathtaking views from the Rilke cliff top  
pathway, and take a walk down to the pretty harbour.
A new exhibition (I sentieri della psiche nella scrittura) displays  
manuscripts by the German poet Rilke, with an analysis of his  
handwriting.  There will also be a collection of antique pens on loan  
from the Parker and Waterman Museum.  Open until 17 May 2007.
Until 15 April 2007 at the Museo postale e telegrafico della  
Mitteleuropa (piazza V. Veneto), there is an interesting exhibition  
which details the history of the postal service in the area, with  
collections from Italy, Austria and Germany.  Monday-Saturday 9-13.

C H I L D R E N's  A C T I V I T I E S
L'Immaginario Scientifico
This science museum (located on the ground floor level of the Adriatico  
Hotel, entrance at the rear of the hotel, opposite the 36 bus stop) has  
exhibits which are particularly suitable for children.
A children's laboratory will be held on Sunday from 15.45-16.45 for  
those aged 4-7 and from 15:30-17:00 for 8-11 year olds. You can book by

F A I R S  &  M A R K E T S
On Sunday 15 April, there will be the monthly flea market in Trieste  
town centre.  All sorts of antiques and bric a brac will be on sale all  
day in the roads of the old town behind Piazza della Borsa near the  
Roman Theatre (Teatro Romano).

Alpe-Adria Pen Show
At the Stazione Marittima on the waterfront in Trieste there will be  
the eleventh edition of the fair with the chance to see and exchange  
pens of all kinds, mostly fountain pens on Sunday 15 April.  Starting  
at 10am. Info: 040365428.

International Cat Show
This weekend the racecourse in Trieste (Ippodromo di Montebello,  
piazzale de Gasperi, opposite the Fiera) will be hosting an  
international cat show.  Over 300 examples of 36 different breeds will  
be on show.  Open Saturday and Sunday from 9.30-19.

M U S I C & C O N C E R T S
Weekend al Verdi
On Sunday 15 April at 11, in the Sala Victor de Sabata at the Teatro  
Verdi, the string quartet of the Orchestra of the Teatro Verdi,  
accompanied by oboe and flute will play a selection of music by Mozart.  
  Tickets cost 7 euro (5 euro reduced price for young people) and can be

N A T U R E
Carsiana Botanical Garden
The Carsiana botanical garden, which offers visitors a beautiful  
selection of the typical local fauna, to be found among the vegetation  
in Carso (karst) is getting ready to open to the public for the season  
on 25 April.  It will be open on 15 April from 14-18, with two guided  
tours setting off at 15 and 16.  Entrance is 3 euro (reduced price 2  
euro).  You can find all the information you need on their website

S P O R T
Vivicitta'
On Sunday 15 April at 10:30 in Piazza Unita the "Vivicitta'" running  
event will start, at the same time as it begins in 100 Italian towns  
and cities.  So far, in the 23 editions of this event, 1,500,000  
participants have taken part in more than 60 Italian cities, and over  
70 cities worldwide. There will be two routes: 12 km for more  
experienced runners and a 4km fun-run.  More information by phoning  
040-639382.  You can enroll on the day, from 8.30-10 in Piazza Unite'  
directly, but those who sign up before Sunday will receive a gift pack  
containing a t-shirt and some products offered by the event's sponsors.  
  Participants can sign up in piazza Duca degli Abruzzi 3 daily from  
9-13 and 14-17.

Swimming
Trieste offers several possibilities for swimmers. More information, in  
English, on all the local swimming facilities (including the pools also  
in Altura, Monfalcone and nearby Slovenia) can be found on the

Remember to take a swimming cap with you, as it is obligatory in all  
structures!
The nearby seaside resort of Grado is nice to visit, with its  
historical centre, basilica and roman remains.  You can read about the  
town (in English) on the site: http://www.gravo.com/estor.html.  Grado  
also has a great indoor spa pool (more information in Italian on the  
site: http://www.gradoit.it/home_turista.html).
If you don't have a car, the best way to get to Grado is by bus.  The  
APT number 21 bus goes direct to Grado leaving the bus station in  
Trieste at 7.50 on weekdays and Saturdays and 8.00 on Sundays (it  
reaches Grignano bus stop about 5-10 minutes later).  The return from  
Grado bus station is 14.15 Monday-Saturday and 18.50 on Sundays.

T O U R S
Trieste on Foot
Every day, there are guided walking tours (in Italian and English) of  
Trieste, starting at 16:30.  It lasts 2 hours and costs 5 Euro  
(children under 12 go free).  Book your place at the Tourist Bureau  
(TURISMO FVG Trieste) in Piazza Unita). Tel. 040-3478312.

Trieste by Boat
You can travel from the Molo Pescheria to Muggia and visit the  
Istro-Venetian fishing village. Take advantage to admire Trieste from

This weekend as part of the "Castelli Aperti" event which is taking  
place throughout the region, the privately-owned castle in Muggia will  
be open to the public on Sunday 15 April.
