Free-time activities
A R T  &  E X H I B I T I O N S
On Friday 30 June at 19 at the Museo Revoltella in via Diaz, 27, there  
will be the inauguration of an exhibition entitled "Lessico familiare",  
dedicated to the life and times of the local writer and journalist,  
Silvio Benco (1874-1949).  Open until 24 September.
Exhibition entitled "Il Friuli terremotato", commemorating the  
earthquake which devastated large parts of Friuli in 1976, can be seen  
each day from 9-13 at the Museo Postale e Telegrafico della  
Mitteleuropa in piazza Vittorio Veneto.
Photographic Exhibition ongoing Palazzo del Consiglio Regionale in  
piazza Oberdan, 6 entitled "Mostra Storico-Culturale - 1946-2006  
sessant'anni di repubblica nel Friuli Venezia Giulia".  60 photographs  
on display until 15 July 2006.  More information on 040-3773308.
Exhibition ongoing at the historical Caffe' San Marco (via Battisti 18)  
of a collection of works by over a dozen artists.  On display daily  
until 2 July.
Photographic Exhibition at the Istituto d'Arte Nordio (via di Calvola,  
2) until 30 July entitled Gatti e altre storie.  A collection of  
photographs by students of the institute depicting cats and other pets.  
  Open from Monday to Friday from 10-12 and 16-18.
Exhibition entitled Good Morning, Balkan until 9 July in the Sala del  
Giubileo (Riva Tre Novembre 9). Daily from 10-13 and 15-20.  Works on  
display by artists from all the Balkan states.
Exhibition in the ballroom of the Revoltella Museum (via Diaz, 27)  
entitled "Preview - Andy Warhol's Timeboxes".  Open until 18 July 2006  
as an introduction to the main exhibition which will open on 21 July in  
the renovated fish market (ex-pescheria) in Trieste.  E-mail

display here are part of the "Campbell's soup" group, dedicated to  
industry in Pittsburgh, Warhol's home town, which was a recurring  
source of inspiration in his work.

C H I L D R E N's  A C T I V I T I E S
L'Immaginario Scientifico
This science museum (located on the ground floor level of the Adriatico  
Hotel, entrance at the rear of the hotel, opposite the 36 bus stop) has  
exhibits which are particularly suitable for children.
A children's laboratory will be held on Sunday from 15.45-16.45 for  
those aged 4-7 and from 15:30-17:00 for 8-11 year olds. You can book by

F A I R S  &  M A R K E T S
Flea Market
Each Friday evening for the whole of the summer season, from 18-23 in  
the Caravella area of Sistiana bay there is a weekly antiques and bric  
a brac market.

Bricolage Demonstration
Each Saturday there are free bricolage demonstrations at the  
Carto-Legatoria Tassini in via Matteotti, 5 from 10-13 and 16-19:30.

F O O D  &  D R I N K
SAGRE
The summer months see a proliferation of local open-air Sagre-Country  
village festivals, which are outdoor festivals organized annually by  
lots of local village communities.  There are kiosks where you can buy  
typical local food and drink as well as live music and dancing.
This weekend there are sagre taking place in Padriciano (at the Centro  
Sportivo Gaja), in Prosecco (where they have also installed a giant  
screen to watch the World Cup Matches), in Santa Croce (at the sports'  
ground, also next weekend) and in the Ponziana area of Trieste  
(Piazzale delle Puglie).

M U S I C
Folk-Pop Concert
Friday 30 June at 20:30 there will be a free concert of folk-pop music  
from the Balkans by the Luda Noc ensemble who feature singers,  
accordion players, flautists and dancers.  In the Circolo Vuk Karadzic  
in via del Rivo, 5.

Gospel Concert
Tomorrow, Saturday 1 July at 21 in the Giardini pubblici in the centre  
of Gorizia there will be a free gospel concert by the choir "Sulle ali  
dello Spirito".  Gorizia is easily reachable by train from Trieste and  
is worth a visit, with lots to see and do.  There is also new  
exhibition at the town's Castle on Freud, entitled Sigmund Freud nella  
Terra dei Sogni, which also explores Gorizia's historical links with  
Vienna.  The exhibition is open until 1 October every day, except  
Monday, from 9:30-12:30 and 15-19.

Harpsichord Concert
Today, Friday 30 June at 21, there will be a concert by the harpsichord  
player, Manuel Tomadin, accompanied by the singer, Luca Tittolo in the  
ancient Sant'Eufemia Basilica of the nearby seaside resort of Grado.

Jazz Concert
On Saturday 1 July at 21 in the sala congressi of Porto San Rocco in  
Muggia, there will be a free concert by the Ragtime Jazz band

M U S E U M S
Museo dell'Antartide - Museum of the Arctic
Last few days to visit this interesting museum before it closes on 15  
July for the summer break.  Open each day from 9-13 and 15-19, closed  
Tuesday, in via Weiss 21 (San Giovanni, ex-OPP).  More information on

N A T U R E
Orto Botanico - Botanical Garden
The Civic Botanical Garden in via Marchesetti, 2 is organizing a series  
of evening events throughout the summer months.  This Saturday 1 July,  
from 19-21 there will be a guided walk entitled "Passeggiata  
matematica" to discover how mathematics and geometry feature in the  
plant world.  Opening hours of the gardens are 9-13 from Monday to  
Saturday.  More information on 040-360068.

T O U R S
Trieste by Train
The "Rondo'" historical train which tours Trieste and the surrounding  
hills on the old railway lines started its summer season last weekend.   
Trains leave Campo Marzio station each Sunday at 9:45 and 15, and the  
main Railway station at 11:53 and 17:10.  The journey lasts about 1n  
hour and twenty minutes.  Tickets cost 8 Euro for a single, 12 Euro for  
a return.
Trieste by Bus
Every Saturday a bus leaves for a tour of Trieste from in front of the  
train station at 14.00.  It takes in all of the main sights to see  
downtown, and there is also a 30-minute stop at St. Giusto Castle,  
where you can walk along the Castle walls or visit the Cathedral or  
simply enjoy the spectacular views.  Tickets may be bought in the Sala  
Eurostar in the main railway station and cost 5.20 Euro, with children  
under 10 travelling free.
Trieste by Boat
There are now several boat trips operating locally for the summer  
season: Trieste - Muggia, Trieste - Barcola - Grignano (see the  
following web site for timetables and prices:

Please note that all these boat trips within the Province of Trieste  
are free of charge to those who hold an annual or monthly "rete"  
transport ticket.  We have been informed however that the  
Trieste-Muggia route is now no longer free for rete holders!
The Delfino Verde boat has also started operating the route Trieste -  
Grado.  More details on the site: www.delfinoverde.it.
