Free-time activities
A R T  &  E X H I B I T I O N S
New Exhibition opening at the historical Caffe' San Marco (via Battisti  
18) of a collection of works by over a dozen artists.  On display daily  
until 2 July.
Photographic Exhibition at the Istituto d'Arte Nordio (via di Calvola,  
2) until 30 July entitled Gatti e altre storie.  A collection of  
photographs by students of the institute depicting cats and other pets.  
  Open from Monday to Friday from 10-12 and 16-18.
Exhibition entitled Good Morning, Balkan until 9 July in the Sala del  
Giubileo (Riva Tre Novembre 9). Daily from 10-13 and 15-20.  Works on  
display by artists from all the Balkan states.
Exhibition by the local artist, Cristiano Leban, at the AIAT office in  
Sistiana (at the start of the Rilke path, directly above the bay).   
Open until 18 June from 10-12 and 14-18.  Have a look at the paintings  
and then take a walk along the cliff top path and admire the stunning  
views.
Exhibition in Palazzo Gopcevic (via Rossini, 4, alongside the Canal di  
Ponterosso) entitled "Il Porto di Fiume" presents the history of the  
former Italian, now Croatian port of Fiume.  Open until 25 June 2006  
daily from 9-19.  Free entrance.
"Trieste Umida" is the title of the exhibition in the Speleovivarium in  
via Guido Reni 2/C.  A chance to see amphibians like frogs and  
salamanders in a natural context, and examples of how delicate  
ecosystems rich in species of animals and vegetables have managed to  
develop unexpectedly in urban areas.  Open Tues and Thur from 18-19:30  
and Sunday from 10-12 until 18 June.
Exhibition in the ballroom of the Revoltella Museum (via Diaz, 27)  
entitled "Preview - Andy Warhol's Timeboxes".  Open until 18 July 2006  
as an introduction to the main exhibition which will open on 21 July in  
the renovated fish market (ex-pescheria) in Trieste.  E-mail

display here are part of the "Campbell's soup" group, dedicated to  
industry in Pittsburgh, Warhol's home town, which was a recurring  
source of inspiration in his work.

C H I L D R E N's  A C T I V I T I E S
L'Immaginario Scientifico
This science museum (located on the ground floor level of the Adriatico  
Hotel, entrance at the rear of the hotel, opposite the 36 bus stop) has  
exhibits which are particularly suitable for children.
A children's laboratory will be held on Sunday from 15.45-16.45 for  
those aged 4-7 and from 15:30-17:00 for 8-11 year olds.  Both groups  
will be making water missiles.  You can book by e-mail at

exhibition which will last until 18 June, entitled: Viaggiando  
Immaginando.

F A I R S  &  M A R K E T S
Flea Market
On Sunday 18 June 2006, there will be the monthly flea market in  
Trieste town centre.  All sorts of antiques and bric a brac will be on  
sale all day in the roads of the old town behind Piazza della Borsa  
near the Roman Theatre (Teatro Romano).

Montmartre a Trieste
On Saturday 17 June, there will be an outdoor exhibition of paintings  
and sculptures in Piazza della Borsa.

Model Soldier Fair
The Club Modellistico San Giusto is organizing a model soldier show in  
Palazzo Vivante (Largo papa Giovanni XXIII, 7).  There will be  
collections from all over Italy and abroad, including two collections  
from the USA.  Open Saturday 17 from 14-22 and Sunday 18 from 10-13.   
Free entrance.

M U S I C  & D A N C I N G
Brass Bands
On Sunday 18 June at 10:00 in Piazza Verdi (in front of the theatre in  
Trieste, near Piazza Unita'), there will be a performance by 3 brass  
bands, from Austria, Slovenia and Italy.

India E-Motion
On Sunday 18 June at 19:00 in the Giardini (gardens) of via San Michele  
in Trieste, there will be a performance of Indian dancing, organized by  
the Associazione Culturale Teatro Immagine Suono.

N A T U R E
Carsiana Botanical Garden
The Carsiana botanical garden, which offers visitors a beautiful  
selection of the typical local fauna, to be found among the vegetation  
in Carso (karst) is now open to the public for the summer season.  You  
can find all the information you need on their very helpful website  
(including the bus route to take you there, opening times etc.) which  
is also in English: http://www.triesteincontra.it/carsiana/eng/.  This  
Sunday, 18 June, there will be two guided tours at 16 and 17 entitled  
"Il sentiero delle piante velenose", dedicated to the various poisonous  
plants found locally.

T O U R S
Trieste by Train
The "Rondo'" historical train which tours Trieste and the surrounding  
hills on the old railway lines started its summer season last weekend.   
Trains leave Campo Marzio station each Sunday at 9:45 and 15, and the  
main Railway station at 11:53 and 17:10.  The journey lasts about 1n  
hour and twenty minutes.  Tickets cost 8 Euro for a single, 12 Euro for  
a return.
Trieste by Bus
Every Saturday a bus leaves for a tour of Trieste from in front of the  
train station at 14.00.  It takes in all of the main sights to see  
downtown, and there is also a 30-minute stop at St. Giusto Castle,  
where you can walk along the Castle walls or visit the Cathedral or  
simply enjoy the spectacular views.  Tickets may be bought in the Sala  
Eurostar in the main railway station and cost 5.20 Euro, with children  
under 10 travelling free.
Trieste by Boat
There are now several boat trips operating locally for the summer  
season: Trieste - Muggia, Trieste - Barcola - Grignano (see the  
following web site for timetables and prices:

The Delfino Verde boat has also just starting operating the route
