*IGAP Special Lecture*

*Speaker:* Don Zagier (MPI, Bonn - ICTP-IGAP)

*Date and Venue*: Tuesday 14 April at 14:00 and at 15:30 - ICTP Leonardo
Building Euler Lecture Hall

*Title:* Finite multiple zeta values and the poor man's adele ring

*Abstract:*
The "poor man's adele ring" is the ring consisting of a number modulo p
for all prime numbers p, with two collections being equal if they differ
at only finitely many primes. This ring contains the rational numbers
and analogues of many famous real numbers, such as Euler's constant or
log 2. Much more interesting are various analogues of the classical
multiple zeta values that have played a big role in many questions of
mathematics and mathematical physics in recent years. These involve
surprising and beautiful combinatorial relations which will be described.
The talk, which is divided into two parts, is meant for a general
audience and will be entirely self-contained, without assuming any prior
knowledge. The work described is joint with Masanobu Kaneko of Kyushu
University.

All are welcome to join.
