Dear all,

we remind you the first event in the *Future Visions On Science
Communication* series, which will take place on Wednesday, November 27,
2024, at 10:30 AM in Room 128-129.

*The Crisis of Scientific Publishing: Lights and Shadows** *

With Luca De Fiore (Il Pensiero Scientifico Editore), Elisa De Ranieri
(Director of Newton), and cosmologist Licia Verde. Moderated by Letizia
Gabaglio.

Terms like /peer review, impact factor, open access, pre-print, and
predatory journals /are just a few elements defining the complex world
of scientific publishing. This process, which should ensure the quality,
impartiality, and neutrality of science, is now at the center of heated
debate. Many argue that it is undergoing a crisis, influenced by
financial interests, prestige, careers, and trust in science, raising
questions about the very value of research and its impact on society.
From medicine to physics, our session will explore the lights and
shadows of this crucial issue, offering perspectives and solutions that
concern not only the research community but all of us.

*The event will be held in Italian with simultaneous translation into
English.*

*Future Visions on Science Communication* is a series of events
organized by SISSA to explore the challenges and future of specialist
publishing and journalism. International professionals will come
together to address topics such as the crisis in scientific publishing,
the potential of satellite journalism, and the economic sustainability
of the information industry.

The events are free, open to the public, and do not require
registration. The full program and further information are available on
the Future Visions on Science Communication website.
