Protecting People and Prosperity: Adoption of a Climate Risk
        Management Communication

The European Commission has adopted a pivotal Communication titled
"/Managing climate risks: Protecting people and prosperity/" that
outlines strategies to proactively address the escalating
climate-related risks in the EU.

It responds to the broad body of evidence, including the inaugural
*European Climate Risk Assessment
<https://www.eea.europa.eu/publications/european-climate-risk-assessment>*,
and emphasises that climate-related damages are influenced by known
risks and policy responses. By prioritising solutions across societal
systems, the proposals aim to enhance governance, provide essential
tools, leverage structural policies, and establish conducive conditions
for financing climate resilience.

from regions and local authorities across Europe regarding the general
support available to them to prepare and plan for climate resilience.

If you are a Charter Signatoryand/or member of the EU Mission Adaptation
Community of Practice, it would also be valuable if you could answer two
further questions regardingthe specific support available to you.

Please *answer this short survey*
<https://ec.europa.eu/eusurvey/runner/Climate_Resilience_Support_Newsletter_Survey>,

complete, before the deadline of *Tuesday 16, April 2024*.

Latest Mission Stories inspiring EU regions and local authorities

Are you looking for best practice in building climate resilience in your
region? Read the latest Mission Stories focusing on the potential
effects and impacts of climate hazards on the Dutch province Drenthe and
North West Croatia.

In Drenthe, they are using the climate adaption tool, Drents
AdaptatieBeeld, to visualise various scenarios for 2050 and suggest
adequate measures, while local authorities in North West Croatia are
using spatial planning to overcome coordination issues between
governance levels in their climate adaptation strategies.

Multi-level Governance: Fourth REGILIENCE Open Training Session

Do you want to learn more about multi-level governance strategies for
regional and national adaptation? Mission Project, REGILIENCE, hosted
its fourth open training session, which served as a comprehensive guide
to this topic, equipping participants with insights into multi-level
governance to help for regional and national adaptation efforts.

At the event held on 11 March 2024, participants were presented with
effective strategies for reinforcing climate resilience. From examining
national adaptation actions to navigating funding mechanisms and
governance frameworks, the session offered actionable insights to drive
impactful climate adaptation initiatives.

PROVIDE released its Climate Risks Dashboard

Mission project, PROVIDE, has published its publicly available tool that
allows users to investigate future climate change impacts and
(un)avoidable risks from local cities to a global scale.

The PROVIDE project aims to provide more clarity on how climate impacts
might develop after peak temperatures, in so-called ‘overshoot
scenarios’, and if they can be reversed.

Explore different climate futures and how they will affect the
environment and people as well as how to avoid reaching undesirable
climate impacts, specifically in urban areas.

RESIST partner, GAIA Vesterålen, uses visual art to communicate
        climate change

As part of the Sunken House Project, GAIA Vesterålen, intended to show
how future climate change will affect locals in the Norwegian region.
The art project illustrated the rising sea level as a result of climate
change on a historic building to create awareness and debate, and to
inspire individuals to take action in their daily lives.

As part of the RESIST project, Vesterålen has been partnered with
another EU region facing similar climate risks and is more advanced in
delivering adaptation solutions. RESIST will support the region in
further developing the GaiaVesterålen platform with augmented reality
and virtual reality technology to demonstrate the effects of climate
change and contribute to the local community becoming more
environmentally friendly.
