Ukraine’s association agreement to Horizon Europe and Euratom Research 
and Training Programmes enters into force
Today, the agreement associating Ukraine to Horizon Europe, the EU 
research and innovation programme (2021-2027) and the Euratom Research 
and Training Programme (2021-2025) entered into force, following its 
ratification by Ukraine. The Ukrainian research and innovation actors 
can now fully participate in these programmes on equal terms with 
entities from the EU Members States.

Mariya Gabriel, Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, 
Education and Youth, said:

    /In these critical times, Ukraine’s association to Horizon Europe
    and Euratom Research & Training Programmes demonstrates the strength
    of our partnership, which can only grow stronger, as the EU
    continues to stand with Ukraine. The EU’s strong commitment to
    nurturing Ukraine’s research and innovation talent is vital both for
    building broader collaboration under our Association Agreement as
    well as for the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine./

Success stories
A toolkit to identify the best nature-based solutions for specific 
environmental challenges

Interventions like green roofs and waterway restoration can tackle key 
environmental issues. The EU-funded ReNature project developed a toolkit 
that helps researchers, planners and other stakeholders identify the 
best nature-based solutions for them. The work will deliver on the EU’s 
climate goals and allow citizens across the EU to enjoy greener cities.

European Commission at the SMM Hamburg
The SMM International Maritime Trade Fair in Hamburg is the largest 
maritime industry trade fair and considered the most important global 
maritime industry event. It gathers more than 2,200 companies from 67

Between the data and the deep blue sea

With around 70% of the planet's surface covered by ocean, the EU Mission 
to restore our ocean and waters focuses on positive actions to restore 
marine ecosystems, eliminate pollution, and make our blue economy carbon 
neutral and circular. To mark World Ocean Day on 8 June, Horizon 
Magazine takes a dive into two collaborative projects working to deliver
