Accelerating the green transition can lower energy prices in the long 
term according to EU Chief Scientific Advisors
Today, the European Commission’s Group of Chief Scientific Advisors 
(GCSA) published a statement in response to the substantial increase of 
energy prices in Europe in recent months. In their statement, the 
Advisors point out that accelerating the transition towards a low-carbon 
energy system is a solution that can lower energy prices in the long term.

Scientific Advisors and lead Advisor for the Statement:

poverty, achieving a high share of affordable, sustainable and renewable

Success stories
Innovative recycling tackles complex plastic-based materials

Certain plastic materials can be incredibly difficult to recycle. The 
EU-funded MultiCycle project has developed a pilot plant that can 
recycle complex plastic materials. This helps the EU move towards a 
circular economy, allowing citizens to benefit from plastics in an

Horizon 2020 European Green Deal call: results and ambitions for the future
On Wednesday 27 October, the European Commission is organising a 
kick-off event to celebrate the projects selected for funding under the 
Horizon 2020 European Green Deal call. This €1 billion call, the last 
one under Horizon 2020, will fund projects that will contribute to the 
EU’s response to the climate crisis and help protect Europe’s unique
