3rd round recipients of 2020 include a project to develop a new low-cost 
test for COVID19, another aiming to share cultural expertise to solve 
conflicts, a third developing a way to help develop new medicines to 
treat blindness, while a fourth aims to commercialise a more efficient 
clean energy producing technology.

Consolidator Grant funding helps mid-career researchers consolidate 
their own teams and carry out innovative projects across all scientific 
disciplines. In 2020 we selected eight successful projects to examine in 
detail, from Croatia, the Czech republic, Germany, Italy, Portugal, 
Romania, Spain, and Ukraine.

Synergy Grant project examples 2020

Synergy projects, with two to four PIs, range from uncovering the 
mysteries of our brain’s immune system, to investigating the unknown 
past of human interactions with the oceans, and improving how we measure 
astronomic distances. In 2020 we selected seven examples to give you a 
taste of what they will explore.
