we are pleased to announce a 'last-minute' Ph.D. course by prof. Paolo
Rossi from University of Padova with the title:
'Mathematical methods of integrability'
Type: Basic course, 8 hours (a second course will follow in January)
Where: meeting room (2nd floor) of the Dipartimento di Scienze
Informatiche e Fisiche, Università di Udine
When: December, Tuesday 7 and Tuesday 14
Title: Mathematical methods of integrability
Abstract: Classical mechanical analytics in its geometric formulation is the
starting point for the study of more modern physical theories, from
relativity
to quantum mechanics, from solid state physics to field and string
theory. In
each of these theories the concept of integrability, as a manifestation
of the
richness of symmetries of a physical system, is central to the
exploration of
the solutions of the considered models. The course aims to introduce the
geometric language necessary for the formulation of classical integrability
theorems in the Hamiltonian environment and some of the modern methods of
construction and study of integrable systems. Examples range from multi-body
systems on a lattice to evolutionary PDEs.
Review of differential geometry
Symplectic and Poisson structures
Arnold-Liouville integration
Lax representations
