> In this talk I will discuss two facets of the statistical physics 
> approach to such problems.
> On the one hand I will discuss how the tools of statistical physics 
> provide a way to analyze algorithmic phase transitions in contexts 
> like statistical inference or learning, where the goal of the 
> optimization is to recover a ground truth hidden in the landscape.
> On the other hand I will discuss how non-convex optimization problems 
> emerging in the context of machine learning may give rise to marginal 
> stability, critical behavior and universality suggesting some rich 
> structure in such problems.
