*From field observations to new challenges for manned and unmanned flight*

I will introduce the world of soaring birds through the explanation of 
the micrometeorological environment shared by vultures and humans, with 
same techniques of flight but different skills and different 
'instrumentation'. How do we fly? How do they fly? How do we help each 
other in finding our way up in the sky? Hang-gliding is not only 
passion, sport and poetry but it offers also a new way to discover 
animal behaviour, and helps develop a new generation of soaring unmanned 
aerial vehicles.

*Davide Finzi Carraro* is an experienced free flight pilot. Since 1992, 
he has been an advanced soaring flight instructor and expert in 
micrometeorological environments, UAV systems developer, pilot and 
instructor. In 2012 he/started /the project "Follow the Griffin" to 
study and document the European griffon with new methods and viewpoints.
