The Societal Challenge 2 Info Week

the 2017 calls will take place on 27- 29 June 2016 in Brussels.

This information week, jointly organised by the Research Executive 
Agency (REA), DG RTD, DG AGRI and the BIOHORIZON consortium

available funding opportunties under the 2017 calls and updates on 
research results from projects funded under Societal Challenge 2.

    BioHorizon international brokerage event for the 2017 SC2 and KET-B
    calls

Following the SC2 Info Day 2016 dedicated to “Food Security, 
Sustainable Agriculture and Forestry, Marine, Maritime and Inland Water 
Research and the Bioeconomy” challenge in Horizon 2020, on the 
afternoon of 28th June 2016, there will be a corresponding brokerage 
event organised by the EU-funded BioHorizon project.

The BioHorizon brokerage event will be dedicated to consortium building. 
The main part of the event will comprise bilateral meetings between wide 
spectrum of companies, universities and researchers, stakeholders from 
Europe and beyond interested in the same call topics. Following 
successful registration for the event, participants can pre-arrange 
these bilateral meetings automatically by means of a sophisticated, 
user-friendly match-making tool based on the profiles and research 
interests recorded in the system by participants.

*Extreme weather and armed conflicts have put 240 million people under 
food stress*
In 2016, 240 million people across 45 low-income and/or 
conflict-affected countries are assessed as being in a 'food stress' 
situation. Within this number, 80 million people are in the more serious 
condition of "food crisis” with 41.7 million being located in 
countries affected by El Niño.

The EIP-AGRI has published a brochure ‘Thematic Networks under Horizon 
2020 - compiling knowledge ready for practice’. Working on a specific 
topic, these thematic networks collect existing scientific knowledge and 
best practices and translate them into easily understandable end-user 
material.

*EU-AU-IIASA Evidence and Policy event on Water-Energy-Food nexus 30th 
August – 2nd September 2016*
The European and African Union Commissions together with the 
International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) are 
organizing a highly participatory evidence and policy event in the field 
of the *Water-Energy-Food nexus*. The event will take place at the Joint 
Research Center site in Ispra, Italy from 31st August to 2nd September 
2016, with a preliminary inception day on 30th August 2016 for some 
participants. The programme includes some lectures and panels with high 
level policy makers and scientists, but mainly comprises a series of 
interactive masterclasses.  Participants will develop their working 
practices, skills, behaviour and methods, in both the scientific and 
policy-making domains via masterclasses and group work.
