'Majorana Fermions in One Dimension'
Abstract:
-----------
In a classic paper by Alexei Kitaev (2001) the existence of Majorana
fermion type excitations appearing in the form of boundary states were
predicted for superconducting 1-D spineless fermions. Since then there has
been tremendous progress both on the theoretical and the experimental
fronts on this topic. In this talk I will first discuss an independent
route to the Topological description of this system using the physics of
"exceptional point". Then I will also discuss a recent proposal involving
unique interferometric signature for Majorana bound state which cannot be
faked by any accidental zero energy Andreev bound state. Though there has
been considerable progress on the experimental side but still a smoking gun
experimental for detection of Majorana bound states is yet to be in place
and hence the discussion of various possible experimental set ups for
detecting these excitations is of importance.
